Zan's POV

When something is so much smaller, so clearly inferior to you, it's hard to care about them.

If the government suddenly started caring about ant and mosquito murdering, humans would think their leaders had gone crazy. They're just tiny little bugs. Why do the humans even need them?

Bees are tiny, too. But because they provide a service to the humans, they are deemed more important than the ants. If all of the bees suddenly disappeared, the humans would be concerned. If all of the mosquitoes were gone, the humans would rejoice.

But ants are still important to other ants, and mosquitoes are still important to other mosquitoes. Just like humans will always be important to other humans.

To my government, humans are just the ants and the mosquitoes of the universe. They're all tiny, annoying little things that can easily fade into the background until they're buzzing in your ear or crawling on your picnic blanket. My government doesn't see how they could ever do anything remotely important.

Sure, they might destroy the earth, but we won't care. Just like a human can crush an anthill and barely even notice. My government thinks that humans don't have the capacity to even ask for help. And I think they might be right. There's not a lot of hope to be felt there.

The humans know so very little of the universe that they still think they aren't the ants. After all, the only planet they know for sure has life on it is their own, and they run the earth. The humans have no way of even imagining what is out there.

We have tried to show them, but, to borrow a phrase some humans use, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink.

If humans could prove that they are instead the bees of the universe, however, then my government might try to challenge that saying and force the humans to save themselves.

But the humans can't do that. They don't know they are on trial. They don't know what is at stake.
