Chapter 3

With that, Grandpa stood and left. Sinubukan kong tawagin siya pero hindi man lang siya lumingon at tuluyang umalis. My lips twisted into a frustrated frown. Akala ko naihanda ko na ang sarili ko sa paghaharap namin ni lolo pero parang alam ni lolo na sa kaloob-looban ko mahina pa rin ako.

"What am I supposed to do?" I murmur under my sigh.

"Is your conversation over?" I looked at the closed door to where I know Hugo was standing.

"Hugo." I could hear the frustration in my voice.

I felt the shower of emotions poured to me when Hugo opened the door. "Sorry for the intrusion. I saw your grandfather left, so I presumed. May I have a moment of your time?"

Seeing Hugo caused the tension to lift from my shoulders. "I'm tired, Hugo. I would like to go back to my room now."

"I'm afraid you can't do that, Miss."

I looked at him, confused. "What do you mean? May naka-schedule pa ba akong appointment today?"

"Miss Selene. I must inform you that as of today, wala ka ng matutuluyan sa Mortezo's vineyard."

What the hell?!

"A three-story vacation home has been prepared for your use. Dadalhin kita ngayon doon."

Suffering another major shock after the other so soon, left me without the energy to speak. All I could do was to stare up at Hugo in helpless surprise.

On the way, Hugo explained that the third floor is mine. Ako, siya, at ang housekeeper lang ang pwedeng pumunta roon. The first floor will be the common area, while the second floor will be my suitors rooms.

Hindi talaga ako makaniwala na inilagay ako ni lolo sa ganitong sitwasyon. He forced me to live with those suitors he chose for me! Although it's too late now para pa magreklamo. At least have Hugo with me.

As the car slowed down at a curb where the three-story home settled, Hugo turned to me. "Does this suit your standards, Miss?"

Wala na ako sa mood para sumagot pa. Whatever I say now, won't do any good. "If you're worried about your privacy. I personally guarantee your safety."

"Why did I end up in this situation?" I asked Hugo, ignoring his question.

"Miss Selene, I'm afraid avoiding reality will solve nothing."

I know what Hugo meant. I know that too well, but this can't be right!

"Wala kang dapat ipag-alala sa pagtuloy mo sa bahay na ito. Ako mismo ang magpapanatili nang kaayusan sa lahat. I still hope that you will enjoy your time in your new home." He said reassuring me.

"I don't see anything that would make my time enjoyable here," bulong ko.

"If you mean, your personal belongings. Everything has been taken cared off. Now, please miss, follow me."

Hugo turned his back to open the main door of the house. Alam na alam kong hindi na ako makakareklamo pa kay Hugo dahil bawat kilos niya basang basa ko na. Him turning his back on me only means he did what he did because he is following orders and strictly implementing them.

The modern welcoming common area isn't welcoming for me after all. Everything is so foreign to my feeling. Nasanay na ako sa bahay ko sa vineyard and it feels weird to suddenly go home to this new space. Especially knowing that I will be living here with people I don't know.

"H-Hugo, please l-lead me straight to my r-room." I was stuttering. It was the first time this happened to me. I was nervous about all of it. Maybe, I am also a little afraid. Everything was so uncertain.
