Chapter 2

We were woken up by an alarm going off and as I got up I saw Yeva getting up and shutting the alarm off, she left the room as I got up and followed her, I could hear the shower going so Doll was awake as well. As Yeva began preparing Dolls food I noticed her hands shaking, I got over to her and took her hands in mine. She took a deep breath looking at me, I let her hands go and gave her a hug which she returned. Once I heard the shower stop I let her go and cupped her cheek, she gave me a weak smile and held my hand again. She nodded to me before returning to cooking, soon Doll joined us and she was a mess to say the least. She didn't even try to brush her hair as it was all over the place and still wet, her clothes were all out of sorts and her face was just disconnected from reality. I understood she wasn't in the best place right now so I took in upon myself to look after her and her mother for a while, I got over to Doll and pulled her back to her room, I motioned for her to get dressed in better clothes than her messy ones. I waited outside for her to change and once she did she came out with a brush in her hands, we made our way back to the kitchen and she sat down setting the brush on the counter, Yeva was about to grab it when I stopped her. I motioned that I'd take care of it so she could just focus on cooking, I grabbed the brush and pulled Doll onto my lap, I ran the brush through her hair straightening it and making it look presentable. Once I was done I set the brush down and let Doll up, Yeva placed a plate in front of her and me. I gave Yeva a quizzical look as I didn't need food to survive and it only made my body grow and evolve faster. She smiled at me before turning back to the dishes she was cleaning, I ate my food and noticed Doll was also a little shaky before she completely let go of her fork and broke down crying again. I set my fork down and wrapped my arms around her pulling her into my chest. I gently rocked her as she cried, I looked at Yeva and shook my head, she got the message and left the room, I heard her make a call as I sat with Doll trying to comfort her with the loss of her father. Yeva came back into the room and nodded to me, I picked Doll up and carried her back to her room and set her in her bed again. She looked up at me and I gave her a smile and a gently nod before pulling the covers over her, I sat on the edge of her bed and held her hand, I rubbed the top of her hand and soon she was sleeping again. I got up and left her room returning to the kitchen, I sat down and finished my food while Yeva did the dishes. Once I was done I got up and took my plate over with the intent of washing it myself but Yeva took it from me and washed it, I wrapped my arms around her from behind and felt her pause and grab my hand squeezing it, I sighed before letting her go and leaving the apartment.

I made my way to class and arrived late, I got inside "Late on your second day Y/n, do you know how to read a clock?" The teacher asked. I gave him a thumbs up and took my seat "Ugh he shows up but Doll doesn't" I hear a girl with blonde hair say. I grew agitated with her for her comment but didn't lash out and sat quietly, class went on and I noticed Uzi wasn't there so I figured she was either sick or skipping class which seemed like something she would do given her attitude. I was handed another work sheet and just copied what was on it without know what the words meant. I heard some snickers from around the room as the class went on but didn't pay them much mind until something hit me, I looked at what it was and saw a book picking it up. I looked it over and looked around at who could have thrown it at me but everyone was acting natural, I sniffed the book and got a few comments "Is he sniffing it?" One asked "Is he an animal?" Another asked "What's an animal?" One asked. I got the scent of the person and looked for the source and soon found the person sitting two rows over and four up, I got up with the book in my hands and walked over to his desk smashing it into pieces once I got there "Uhhh I didn't do it?" He says sinking into his chair, I picked him and a gave him a jolt of electricity making him glitch out a little. I dropped him and returned to my seat and continued my work. Once it was done I handed it in, I returned to my seat and looked around at everyone before resting my head on the desk drifting off to sleep again. I was woken up sometime later by the teacher "Class has been over for twenty minutes, go home" he says. I nodded and got up leaving, I made my way back to Yeva and Dolls apartment and knocked on the door. Yeva opened it and upon seeing me smiled "What are you doing back?" She asked, I made a check mark motion and pointed inside "Checking in on us already? Thank you Y/n" she says letting me inside, I sat down on the couch as Yeva sat down next to me "Thanks for everything last night and this morning, it is hard with him gone but you've help more then you'll ever know" she says. I nodded before tapping my chest with a open hand, I then crossed my arms in an X and tapped them against my chest before making a small gesture. "I know you'll protect Doll, you were always protective of Nori and I never letting the humans berate us for something going wrong" she says. I made a confused look before holding up two fingers wiggling the second one. "Nori? She died a few years ago now.... A murder drone got her with its acid and her husband Khan had to put her out of her misery as the acid was slowly consuming her" she says, I made the small gesture again "Yes she has a child, Uzi do you know her? Her and Doll share a class" she says. I nodded a few times as I now knew Uzi was Noris daughter. I got an idea, I made the small gesture before pointing down to the ground, I then pointed at her and made a forward motion separating my arms as they went. "I suppose you can bring Uzi here and I can explain everything to her, she's never talked to me before so I doubt she'll know that her mother and I worked together or that you were Noris "adopted" child" she says with finger quotes. She wasn't wrong Nori did act like a mother to me from time to time when she could. Her and Yeva both did but Nori was more open about it, back then I was just young and was afraid of just about everything but these two were family to me and I was eternally grateful for them. I gave me a smile and a quick hug before I got up, I made the small gesture again and pointed down the hallway "Yes she's awake, tho she's been in her room all day and hasn't come out once" she says. I nodded and made my way to Dolls room knocking once I got there, I didn't hear anything not a peep or anything. I slowly opened the door and saw Doll laying on her bed with her phone out texting people, she didn't acknowledge me as I got over to her but once I sat down she looked up at me "Yes?" She says. I pointed to her and made a quizzical gesture "I'm not as good at this as my mother is" she says. I smiled and just pulled her up into a hug "Oh.... I'm doing.... Better then before" she says. I gave her a nod and motioned out of her room "No I'll stay here thanks" she says returning to her phone. I rolled my eyes as it wasn't what I wanted, I wanted her to come talk to her mom so she could explain that I'd look out for her if she needed me. I picked her up and carried her out "Hey! I said I didn't want to go anywheres!" She say fighting with me to get away "Y/n what are you doing?" Yeva asked. I motioned with my head to come over as I set Doll down "What do you want?" Yeva asked. I made the explain motion again "Oh you want me to translate for you" she says "How do you understand his motions?" Doll asked "Years of practice, and it's kinda simple for most. Look at the motion and think of what I could mean" she says. "So what do you want me to know?" Doll asked. I motioned to Yeva to tell her that I'd protect her "He will be there for you should you need him, he'll protect you" she says "You will? Why?" Doll asked. I tapped my chest with and open hand then a closed fist before pointing at Yeva "He's grateful for the things I've done in the past, and as a thank you he will be your guardian, as Nori and I were for him when he was younger" she says "What did you do for him?" She asked Yeva looked at me unsure if I wanted her to share my past, I motioned for her to go ahead "As you know his genetics are spliced and mixed making him how he is today, Uzi's mother Nori was a work partner and her and I worked together on Y/n, he was only a child then..." she says which confused me as I only remembered being older then a child. Yeva noticed my confused look "Oh right, they repressed and filtered your mind" she says. Now I was also curious as to what really happened "As we worked on him and watched him grow we grew attached to him and began talking and looking after him when he wasn't in the lab or his tube. Nori was far more attached to him then I was and acted as a mother to him but I played my part in his upbringing as well. It's probably why he understands Russian, I was the one who got them to make his mind bilingual. Y/n you don't know the full extent to why you were made this way do you?" She asked. I shook my head no as I thought it was just punishment for something I had done. "You were made to be a weapon, if they could master genetic engineering and give super powers to there soldiers then nothing would stop them. You were there closest subject" she says. I nodded slowly as reality set in, "So your his kinda mother too?" Doll asked "Nori was.... But with her gone and him not having any family" she says before I stopped her, I pointed at the both of them "F f family..." I managed to say as Yeva and Doll were caught off guard by my voice. Yeva shed a few tears as she truly understood that me speaking only happened if it was important to me. She pulled me into her embracing me in a hug "Yes Y/n, we are your family" she says "I thought he couldn't speak?" Doll says "He can, but it's unimaginable painful for him to, so him speaking is very rare. That's the second time in all the years since he went mute that he's spoken to me..." she says "Oh, so why did he speak then? He can easily signal to us that he sees us that way" Doll says "Because, to him telling us we are his family is more important then any motions could ever say. If he ever speaks to you Doll what he says, to him is worth the pain and suffering for you to hear" she says. Doll still didn't entirely understand it but nodded anyways "So, what does this mean?" Doll asked "I have a son and you have a brother" Yeva says "Just like that you accept him?" She asked "Doll, I have known him longer then I have known you and acted as a parent and guardian for most of it, he is already close to my heart" Yeva says "How old is he then? If I'm 19 and you've known him longer then me he has to be older" Doll says "Not quite, while technically he's older by a lot, the genetic makeup has made him stop aging at his prime so he's only 20-21 mentally and physically." She says "Huh, okay? What kinda creepy stuff do you know mom?" Doll asked "It's not creepy it's science!" Yeva says. I looked over at Doll and gave her a hug, she was hesitant but returned it "So your my brother.... I don't know how to feel about that" Doll says "Be happy Doll, as he said before he is your guardian now. You can come to him with anything and he will help you the best he can." Yeva says "Does that mean if a boy is being a creep you'll beat them up?" Doll asked. I blow a quick burst of flames out of my nose "Uhh translation?" Doll asked "He'll kill them" Yeva says. Doll got a smile which worried me a little, but I was happy my sister had a smile on her face. I got up and motioned for Yeva to follow me "Where are we going?" She asked, I cut a rift open and pulled her through.
