The Rocky Mountain Showdown

It had been almost a week since Stan and Kyle walked Pearl Street, but it honestly did make Stan feel a bit better. At least, enough to where he could mask his depression a bit better.

He had been pretty busy all week, taking off of work for practice to ensure his best performance for the big game. Tonight was Saturday, the day.

Stan had forced himself to eat in order to have energy for the game, they cannot lose to CSU, that would be pathetic. The Rams versus the Buffs, easy win. Still, it made Stan anxious. He was the quarterback, after all. The game was in a couple hours, so he still had time to prepare.

"You're coming to the game, right?" Stan asked Kyle with a twang of nervousness.

"Of course!" Kyle replied, "haven't missed one yet, have I?"

Stan chuckled and shook his head. At least he knew he had support from his beat friend, win or loss. And Kenny of course, but he was mainly there to tackle people without getting arrested.

"Are you ready?" Kyle asked.

Stan huffed, "well, not really, but yes."

"You got this! You'll do great!"

Kyle arrived at the game after Stan, since Stan had to go in early for warmups. Kyle didn't really understand football, he was much more of a basketball type of guy. Still, he went to cheer on Stan and Kenny, and enjoyed taking a break from studying.

He noticed the other team, puffing up their chests like animals. His gaze shifted to the cheerleaders, noticing Wendy and Bebe cheering for CSU. Figures.

It's funny how the graduating class of South Park almost split in two, one half going to Colorado State University, and the other half University of Colorado Boulder. Sure, there were a couple who went out of state, and some who stayed in South Park; either going to community college or not going to college at all. But for the most part, it was a clean split. Wendy and Bebe went to CSU, obviously, along with Clyde, Heidi (probably to get away from Cartman), Jimmy, Timmy, and a few others. Some kept in contact, some didn't. Wendy and Stan certainly haven't kept in contact, especially after their last breakup.

The two teams got on the field, bickering nonsense at each other. Classic state rivalries.

"Hey, emo kid!" a familiar voice yelled in Stan's direction.

He looked up from his helmet to see none other than Clyde Donovan. Stan snickered, "hey crybaby! Ready to get your ass wiped?"

"Why don't you ask yourself?" Clyde remarked, before waving and running to his team. Stan shot him a friendly middle finger. They didn't hate each other, not at all - but when it came to the Rocky Mountain Showdown, anyone was fair game.

Kyle watched in confusion and awe as the game started and continued, watching Kenny like he'd fight to the death and noting how nice Stan's ass looked in his tights, fighting with himself not to stare.

No Kyle, you can't think like that. He's straight, not to mention your best friend.

The game ended just as fast as it started, Kyle was a little too distracted throughout. The buffs had won, the crowd erupting in cheers as the rams walked off in defeat, slamming their helmets on the ground. Stan and Kenny bumped chests, shouting in glee and hugging their teammates. Kyle couldn't help but to feel a little left out, wishing Stan had gone for basketball like he did so they could share victories like this.

The teams left to shower and change, and Kyle picked himself up and started down the bleachers. He went to his car, texting the group chat to meet him there.

Kyle: im parked in the front. ill be waiting for you, we need to celebrate

McWhoredick: thats what the partys for ;)

SBF<3: that's not until later dumbass

McWhoredick: eat my shits

SBF<3: id rather not thx tho

McWhoredick: shorts*

Kyle: LOL

Kyle pocketed his phone, hopping in his car and starting the engine. It wasn't long until the two jocks jumped in, startling Kyle with their hoots and hollers. Stan slid in front, while Kenny dove into the backseat.

"Oh!" Kenny stopped, "can we bring Butters? I promised to hang out after the game."

"Sure," Kyle replied, putting the car back in park.

"Thanks!" Kenny smiled. It was weird not seeing him in his orange jacket.

Kenny: buttercup! we are waiting in kyles car

Kenny: we are in the front

Buttercup<3: Okay! I'll be there in just a second!

Kenny smiled at his phone. He really loved Butters. They aren't going out or anything, but Kenny has been close to asking him several times.

After a few minutes of waiting, Butters tapped on the window. Kenny opened the door, springing out and hugging the poor boy so tightly he could barely breathe.

"Woah there Ken," Butters giggled, "that's a tight squeeze!"

Kenny let go of the hug, but still kept his hands atop Butters' shoulders, "sorry buttercup, I got a little excited. We won!"

Kenny brought Butters into another hug, a little less life threatening this time. Butters embraced it, smiling into Kenny's shirt.

"Get in lovebirds," Stan remarked, getting impatient.

Kenny and Butters both blushed at the comment, entering the backseat chuckling to themselves.

The four decided to get frozen yogurt. Without Cartman, of course. For one, he didn't even attend the game, and two, they barely tolerated him.

Stan had stolen aux, blasting System of a Down, still high from the win. Kyle didn't really share Stan's taste in music, but he knew it made him happy, so he didn't fuss. Kenny and Stan were singing along to what Kyle and Butters thought to be inaudible lyrics until they had reached their destination.

"Mm, Menchies!" Kenny rubbed his stomach like a cartoon character, grabbing a hold of Butters' arm once they were out of the car.

Stan looked at the two, and suddenly felt a pain in his chest.

I want that with someone. No. I want that with Kyle.

Kyle noticed Stan seemed to come down a bit, and nudged his arm, "hey, don't look so glum! You just won against CSU and now we are getting frozen yogurt!"

Stan forced a smile on his face, realizing he wasn't hiding his thoughts very well. Kyle seemed to accept his smile.

They all got their frozen yogurts, Stan filling his halfway with watermelon sorbet and slices of strawberry to top it off. He had always loved fruit, it was one of the safest things he could eat.

Kyle got plain vanilla, and Kenny made some off-hand comment about Kyle being vanilla. Kyle shot him a glare, and commented back on how he mixed every single flavor and every single topping - messy, just like Kenny.

Butters got chocolate, and added more sprinkles then there was ice cream. Kyle and Stan could see Kenny holding back another comment, but kept it to himself because he had already teased Butters enough today, and he knows he'll tease him more later.

They all sat down at a table, Kenny and Butters across from Stan and Kyle. Stan's thigh brushed up against Kyle accidentally for a split second, and the two of them blushed (without noticing the other), looking away.

Kenny rolled his eyes. Unbeknownst to the two, Kenny knew how they felt about each other. Neither of them told Kenny, but he knew. He observed.
