I grabbed his hand, "Hey, this is real, your okay--" his checkered sneaker jumped off the floor as he thrust himself onto me, I nearly fell, his arms wrapped around me with a tight squeeze. His whole body was trembling, it's been so long since I've seen him like this.

"I-I-I--" The tears overtook him once more.

"It okay Tom, take your time." he cried for at least 10 more minutes without another word. He sniffed and refused to make eye contact.

"I-I.. I-I-I um I'm..s-so s-s-scared!" He choked out, he looked petrified.

"I know, I know Tom, its okay to be scared, your okay. Your with me, your home, your safe. Your safe Tom. No one's going to hurt you, okay? Hey, I think the guys should have something ready by now? Do you want some hot tea? Its Matt's specialty you know. I can bring it up to you? Would you like that Tom?"

"Y-Y-Yes p-please--WAIT.." he fidgeted with his fingers, "P-Please don't leave.."

I thought for a moment, I needed to update Matt about the situation and talk to him without Tom being in the room. I got out my phone, "Is it okay if I go help Matt for a minute? I'll have Tord come up while I'm gone."

"U-Um .. O-Okay."

I texted Matt, Tords footsteps came down the hall then he walked in. "Thank you Tom, it'll be okay. I'll be quick." I walked to Tord and whispered, "If something happens call me. Matt and I gotta go out real quick." He nodded, I shut the door behind me with a sigh. Matt walked up to me with an uneasy smile and offered a soft hug. "Thank you, Matt, what would I do without you?"

"Have to drive this time," He joked while swinging the keys.

I laughed, "Your right, I wouldn't want that. Now let's go," I stopped to turn back and look at Tom's closed door.

"Are you sure he'll be okay with Tord?" Matt asked.

"He is the one that brought Tom here so yes, I think they'll be okay. I trust Tord."

Matt agreed, "We were talking in the kitchen, he was really genuinely worried about him."

We both got in the car, "Out of all the people I've ever met he's definitely the champ for the most interesting." I smiled.

"Ohh yeah you got that one right. I didn't know you could be badass and emo at the same time." Matt joked. "Oh hey, so did you hear the prom theme ASB decided on?"

I know what he's doing, I love Matt, he knows me too well and how much Tom's situation is killing me. As usual he lightens the mood and uses anything he can to distract me and calm me just for a second.

"No I didn't, what is it?"

"It's--" Matt slammed on the breaks, I quickly held the dashboard to keep my balance. I looked at the road and saw the same thing Matt was fixated on. Papers rained from the sky, one landed on the windshield, on it was a black circle with a white line running through it. "H-He wasn't kidding.."

"H-Holy shit.." We both sat in the car for what felt like ever as we watched everything we thought we knew about the world crumble.

Matt finally broke the silence, "Why would an army be here?" He worried.

"I-I.. I don't know Matt this is so crazy." I looked out the windows. This is Swellview, I'm in high school, we don't have to worry about wars or armies or any of that. What the hell is happening? I opened the door and grabbed the paper off the windshield, "Let's ask Tord about it when we get back home."
