Jisoo thought it would be easier over the course of the next month to become adjusted as Jennie's bodyguard until she was needed for the army.

Except it's much worse.

Because Jennie now looked like an exotic goddess and every single man in the palace was practically drooling, not that Jennie noticed because her attention was always firmly on Jisoo.

Jisoo had started to slowly maintain the distance between them that's needed for a bodyguard and princess.

She needed to remember that no matter how much she was accepted into the family, she was still an orphan brought into the palace. And her place should remain as such.

She started with little things such as drawing away from hugs.

The first time she did it, Jennie had been upset.

"Why won't you let me hug you?"

"I don't feel comfortable with touch." Technically, it was a half-truth. She loved touches. Skin against skin was possibly the hottest thing ever.

It was just Jennie's touch that set her aflame and she couldn't think clearly.

Jennie took a step towards her. "Jisoo...did something happen during training?" Her eyes were wide with fear but she saw anger boiling there.

"No!" Jisoo shouted with a strangled cry. "No! Nothing like that happened! I just..." she licked her lips nervously, too confused on an explanation to see Jennie follow the movement.

"Look...I'm your guard now. I promised Roseanne as much and I...I think we should keep our distance."

Her eyes hardened. "Keep our distance? Jisoo, what the hell?!" She took a step forward and pressed a finger into her shoulder. "I'm YOUR BEST FRIEND! AND YOU'RE MINE! I WAITED 6 YEARS FOR YOU!"

Jisoo swallowed. Jennie had changed. She wasn't the quiet, vulnerable girl that Jisoo had left. She was now a strong woman with opinions and apparently, quick to anger.

The brunette blew out a breath and took several steps back. "I...I will respect your decision. But I don't like it." Then with one last hard look, she left in a swirl of silk.

Jisoo shook her head as she finished remembering the hard, possessive look in the princess's eye that she probably imagined before she locked herself in her bedroom for that night.

She pulled herself together and tightened her armor and specially designed pants.

The magnificent "G" placed across the center as she tightened her sword around her waist and stalked off around the palace to find Jennie.

She pulled the string she's kept since she was 12 and looked at the fraying edges with a small smile.

She still used to go tie up her hair in a swift ponytail.

Jisoo pulled one of the guards aside and asked, "Where's Jen—the princess?"

He smiled. "She went to the archery range—"

Of course she did. Even though she's terrible at it.

"—with Prince Jun-myeon."

That caught her attention. "She went alone with him?"

"No. She went with another guard I think—"

But she was already walking hurriedly to the archery range.

As soon as she got there, she saw Jennie let go of an arrow and it completely missed the target.
