It was morning as Nigel had gotten up, taken a shower, and was getting dressed. Nigel hadn't noticed how recently he had been more distant to Adam but Adam noticed. Adam was starting to worry a lot that he wasn't interested in him anymore. They had been dating for a while now and it felt so sudden for Adam. As Nigel finished getting ready he entered the kitchen but he didn't see Adam like he usually would.
Nigel entered the kitchen and saw that Adam was not there. He realized that he had been more distant from Adam recently and began to worry that it could be causing problems in their relationship.
"Adam, where are you?" he asked into the empty kitchen.
He searched the house for Adam, but he had seemingly vanished. Nigel began to panic, thinking that something bad had happened to his beloved.
He then found Adam in his office as he sat in a chair looking out onto the city. Adam seemed to be dissociating which was pretty alarming. The light from the sun dripped through the windows as Adam sat there staring off into the distance. Nigel hadn't even been noticed by Adam.
Nigel walked over to Adam and placed a hand on his shoulder. "Adam, what's wrong? You've been acting strange lately and it's worrying me."
Nigel was concerned for Adam's well-being. He had never seen his boyfriend behave this way before and he didn't know what to make of it.
"Are you okay? Can you tell me what's going on?"
Nigel wasn't sure what else to do or say, so he tried his best to remain calm and be supportive of his struggling partner. Nigel knew that Adam was not being honest with him so he gently took the younger man's hand in his own. "It's okay, you can tell me the truth. What's been bothering you?"
Nigel had always been very perceptive and empathetic. He could sense when someone was upset and could always find the right way to get them to open up. He wanted to help Adam, even if it meant pushing him a little bit outside of his comfort zone.
"Come on, what's going on?"
"It's just- you're so much better than me. You're tough, skilled, and strong. What do you see in me anyway? I-I'm nothing compared to you.." Adam mumbles as his eyes start to water up. "You deserve s-so much better than me." His voice cracked as some tears fell on Adam's face.
"No, don't say that..."
Nigel was heartbroken to see Adam upset. He knew that he was feeling insecure and that he needed to be there for him. He pulled the younger man towards him and hugged him tightly.
"I don't care how strong or skilled you are. I love you for who you are and I wouldn't trade you for anyone else."
Nigel continued to hold Adam close in the hug as he reassured him of his love. "No matter what happens, I'll always be here for you."
Adam wraps his arms around him as he starts to cry into Nigel's shoulder. He kept muttering insecure thoughts he had as he cried. He was so lucky to have someone like Nigel by his side. Adam loved Nigel more than anyone else he had ever met.
Nigel continued to hold Adam in the tender embrace for many long minutes. He wanted to make sure that the younger man knew how much he was appreciated and loved.
"Shhh, I'm here," Nigel whispered to Adam. "I'm not going anywhere. Just let it out, I'll be here for you." Nigel was a comforting, reassuring presence for Adam, holding him close and providing the safe space the younger man needed.
After a few minutes of crying, Adam pulled back and wiped his tears away. The space around his eyes was pink and sore from crying and he rubbed them before looking up at Nigel. He grabbed both of Nigel's hands with his own. "Thank you.."
"You're welcome."
Nigel was touched by Adam's gratitude and the younger man's vulnerability. He had helped Adam during a vulnerable moment and it reinforced his love for him.
He squeezed both of the younger man's hands and smiled. "I'm always here for you. Whatever you need, just let me know and I'll do my best to provide it."
Nigel wanted to show Adam that he could be trusted. He wanted to be a source of strength and stability for him.
