'Maybe a home is nothing but two arms holding you tight when you are at your worst.'

~

I wake up sweating. When I finally manage to open my eyes, I find Y/E/C eyes staring back at me. I sigh in relief that my nightmare was just that. A nightmare, a dream, and nothing more. "Y/N?" I mumble, my throat aching a little. She takes her hand off my shoulder and glances down before looking back up at me. "You were screaming. I'm sorry, I-"

"No," I whisper, "thank you." She wipes a tear from my face and then takes my hand in hers. We sit there in silence for a moment. I can tell she doesn't know what to do or say. Yet, I'm glad she's here - even if I don't want to admit it.

"I should probably go," she says, a weak smile appearing and disappearing just as quickly. I want to ask her to stay. Just for a little longer. This would all be so much easier if she could read minds as well. She gets up and, although I can't bring myself to say anything, I tighten the grip I have on her hand.

"Wanda?"

"Just a few minutes, please." Y/N thinks for a moment and then softly nods her head. She lays down next to me and, as if it's the most normal thing, I rest my head on her chest. As I begin to drift back to sleep I hear myself whisper, "thank you."

When I wake up, Y/N isn't there. I can't help but wonder when she left. Was it as soon as I fell asleep or did she wait for a while? And if she did wait, how long did she wait? Was it an hour, less, or maybe even more? Oh, how I wish I knew.

I'm heading down to the kitchen when I see her again. She's alone. "Thank you, for last night I mean," I blurt out. A smile grows on her face and a slight blush seems to appear.

"Of course. I know things have been weird between us but," she takes a moment to slow down and think about her words, "but I couldn't just leave you." Before I can say anything else, Peter strolls towards us and I know it's time for me to keep walking.

"Wanda, Steve wants to talk to you," he tells me and I shoot a worried look at Y/N before thanking him for letting me know and walking away.

Instead of walking to the kitchen, I decide to go and find Steve straightaway.  I want to know what it is Steve wants. When I find him, he's in his office - scribbling something down on an old, crumpled piece of paper. "Wanda, good news."

Instead of replying, I awkwardly nod my head and wait for him to continue. "Your first mission, nothing complicated," he announces, passing me a case file, "I'm busy right now but I'm sure Y/N can tell you the details. The two of you leave at midday, try and talk to her before then."

I thank him and leave. Too shocked to create an excuse that I can't go.
