Chapter 39

Read the last chapter to remember what has happened.

Leo pov
It rushed at me like a tornado. Silence filled the air between us. I almost spoke but decided against it. We were both tired. We were both drained of all energy. There was no point in fighting him.
Whatever you want raven.
I'll do whatever you want.

"Pancakes are ready. Little Kelly should be out here soon."

"What happens now?" My voice was a pained whisper. My regular confidence had been swept away.

" we wait until you can fully remember everything that's happened. Then- we think of another plan." A cold harsh stare was all I was met with. Nodding my head I swallowed my fears, worries of what would come.

"Will it be painful? Remembering everything?"

"We already got your memories back. That was the painful part. Now we question you, see what you can tell us."

"Leo can meet the kids." Both our heads shot up at the unexpected voice. There she stood. She looked tired but probably better than before.

The kids?
Not my kids.
The thought hurt me. I haven't even met them. I haven't seen them at all. I know nothing about them. Who they are. What they look like.
I don't even know how old they are.

"Absolutely not." Raven practically shouted. Little Kelly raised her hand to show her patience. How calm she was with ravens anger. They balanced each other perfectly.

I envied that.

"Raven-"

"No. I'm not negotiating with you. He ruined everything!"
My throat felt like it was closing but I knew I deserved to hear these words. If anything they didn't hurt me. They just made me realize what I need to change.

I need to change.

"I know raven-"

"Do you!? Do you know!? Little Carly might still be alive if he wasn't stupid! He should've been here! He should've been here for the kids! He should've been here for you. He should've been here for me!" His breathing was erratic. Tears threatened to spill from his eyes. His voice was raspy.

"He should've been here for her."

"You're not the only one who lost her."

"Well it seems like I'm the only one who cares that she is dead!"

"Don't ever say that!" She snapped, shoving raven back against the counter. His back hit it hard and he flinched when her face became the only thing he could see.

"I cared about her. I loved her! She was my sister!" Her hands gripped the front of his shirt harshly as she stared him down.

"I know-"

"Then don't say that nobody else cared about her when I'm standing right here!" For the first time, I could feel her pain. Thought I could never begin to understand what either of them have been through. I could feel it. The way they spoke so highly of her. I spoke highly of her.

God I was so shitty to her. I ran away from her. I practically cheated on her with raven. Yet she was never mad at me or raven. She had our kids.
She died without knowing our kids.

The kids.
The kids.
The Kids.
The kids.
"The kids. Whose watching them?" Anxiety was coursing through me.

"Ropo and Jack have them. It was a last minute decision."

"A horrible decision." Raven added.

"Please."
I couldn't recognize my own voice as I spoke the next few words.

"Can I meet them?"

"Yes"

"No."

Raven pov
So here we are driving down this dirt road at 2pm  heading to ropo's house to see the kids.

My hand was tightly gripping the steering wheel as Leo sat in the passenger seat.

Now, you might be wondering why he's in the passenger seat. Well, little Kelly was feeling tired and dizzy from our...disagreement in the kitchen. So she's laying in the back with blankets and pillows sleeping. I even took the liberty of setting up a little boundary so she doesn't fall off the seat if she turns over.

Ever since I uttered those words to Leo in the kitchen I couldn't help but feel so angry. At myself and at him. At the world for putting us in such a difficult situation.

Sometimes I would find my eyes wandering to look over at him. To make sure he was still in my sight was the most important thing. His leg was violently bouncing up and down.

"If your leg keeps bouncing like that you won't be able to walk inside ropos house. Especially with all his stairs." I commented. Some of the first words I spoke to him since this morning.

"I mean you took away my ability to walk once so this should be no different."

Heat.

It covered my face completely I just prayed that Leo wasn't looking at me. My hand gripped the wheel tighter at his words. My teeth clenched with annoyance.

"Just saying."

"Well I don't need you to 'just say.'" I snapped. Out of the corner of my eye I could see a small smirk on his face at my words.

If he wants to play this petty game then I will too. 
I'll play the game really well.
