I unmuted myself. "I'm gonna get you out, but first. I want you to look for a book, something you could throw in the grounds to distract the motherfuckers."

I heard a few thuds from the other line before Kai finally responds in a nervous tone. "I did it, Do I run? T-they're running towards the building, What do I do?" i glanced at Dream who was already beckoning me outside.

The grounds had emptied out and Dream had already unlocked the gates the second they turned to the other direction.

"Run to the campus exit." I reply simply before ending the call and picking up my bat from the floor. I ran out through the gates and Dream quickly starts to close it back up, dropping the keys down against the floor not too far away from the gate.

I pocketed my phone and searched through the empty parking lot, calmly this time. "You set the guy up." I glaced at Dream, who was also looking around.

"Would you have rather if we died saving that little shit?" I hiss as I followed him towards a grey Cadillac with an unlocked door and a huge dent in the back. "Even if I didn't, he wouldn't have survived in the first place."

"You're a bitch." Was all he replied with as he starts to fiddle with the machinery, making the engine growl with life. "Get in." I didn't have to be told twice, I got in without a word and slammed the door beside me shut.

"We'll head to the town for food and then we'll check if we can go to your house." He simply explained which made me glance at him in surprise. "What about yours?" I asked and he only shook his head.

The rest of the ride was silent except for the roaring engine and the faint sounds of the music coming from my headphones as I looked through the window melo-dramatically.

Upon looking out the window, I had only realized how bad our situation really was.

The streets were morbid, stained with blood and corrupted with distorted inhuman figures roaming. Vehicles and buildings looked completely abandoned and it seemed as though everyone that had once lived here has turned hostile.

"Do you think we'll find help?' i broke the silence as we passed by an empty police department. I hear Dream sigh.

"Not likely. Have you tried calling anyone?" I stared ahead blankly at his question. "Tried the emergencies, The call was disconnected and then the house, The phone just kept ringing."

We both let out a defeated sigh, Mine more subtle than his. "Do you think they're dead?" I see Dream glance at me for a split second, waiting for my answer.

"Most likely. Now stop speaking, I'm listening to Gorillaz." I dismissed as I focused my attention back on the abandoned establishments we passed by.

"What's your favorite song of them?" I turned to Dream with an annoyed expression while he just smirks.

"Can you shut the fuck up?" I spat semi-angrily. "Let me be depressed peacefully, god damn." I hear him chuckle over the faint music while I just cross my arms and stared ahead.

"You're not the only one bored, Y/n. Stop being selfish." I see him roll his eyes through the reflection of the windshield. "Besides, the mall's like 20 minutes away." He says exaggeratedly as I feel the car get faster.

"And what the fuck do you want me to do? Play thumb wrestling with you?" He hummed and held out his right hand towards me. "Good idea, why not?"

I scoffed and didn't move an inch. "Dream, No. You're driving and I don't want to die because of your stupid boredom." I held my phone and bought up the volume as my favourite song began to blast through my headphones.

"Aren't you worried about our situation? We're about to fight for our life once we get to that stupid mall." I could sense Dream tense at my question.

"I spy with my little eye, something red." He avoids. "Don't ignore my question." I run my tongue through my teeth in annoyance.

"I'm not going to start an argument with you." Dream replies simply which should've calmed me down but it somehow didn't. I didn't respond and just looked ahead at the zombies we passed by that stared back at us creepily.

"Y/n." I didn't move, acting like I didn't hear my name being called and then my headphones are being pulled away from me roughly.

"What the fuck is your problem?!" I yelled and he only threw the headphones on my lap angrily.

"Stop acting like a spoiled bitch when I don't tell you shit." He hissed and I only huffed.

"Me? A spoiled bitch? Who the fuck is having a tantrum right now because they got ignored, huh?" I responded back angrily and scoffed at the silence that followed.

The silence was deafening for the rest of the drive until he finally breaks it.

"I've been stuck to contemplate my whole life for a good 30 minutes in that classroom you found me in. I saw some fucked up shit you didn't. I saw my mother get ripped apart by three deceased students who chased me around the campus right after like killing the most important person in my life wasn't enough." I see Dreams lip quiver in my peripheral and my annoyance fades almost instantly.

"I'm not going to apologize for worrying you for not caring about my life as much as you do." It took me a while to process what he had just said but when I finally did, I feel my heart drop.

Is this going to end like some cringe zombie thriller TV show where someone who don't value their life sacrifices themselves?

I hope to god not.
