"Kanha?"
"Yes?"
"Did I just understand what you said? And did I just reply in Sanskrit?" Lakshmi asked in amazement the moment she realised. She stopped fiddling with his fingers and looked up at his radiant face in wonder. His all-knowing eyes glimmered with mischief as he looked down at her and he laughed merrily at the astonished expression on her face.
"Lakshmi, oh my Chanchala, you have been speaking in Sanskrit since the moment you asked why you are here," Krishna said, gently pinching the tip of her nose with the thumb and index finger of his left hand. Lakshmi flushed in embarrassment and looked down, resuming playing with his hand.
"I will never understand your leela, Kanha." She muttered, grinning to herself as she heard him chortling merrily. But when she lifted her head and looked into his bright eyes, she couldn't help but join in his gleeful laughter.
"I am sorry." She said, a few minutes later when they had fallen into a comfortable silence. Turning her head, she looked up at him and found him already looking at her with a kind and understanding smile on his face.
"What for?" He asked, even though she knew that he knew what she was going to say.
"For disappearing out of the blue. I know it must have made everyone worried. But I felt so overwhelmed that I didn't know what to do. So I snuck out to think." She said, looking straight into his eyes.
"It's alright, however, you may get a scolding from Dau, Revati jiji and Rukmini." Krishna said, hiding his smile when the girl's face paled.
"Sc..scolding? From..from Dada? Oh no! I had read that he is very scary when he is angry!" Lakshmi stammered. She immediately gripped his hand tightly and looked at him with pleading eyes.
"Kanha, you won't let them scold me too much, will you?" She asked, afraid of seeing the disappointment in everyone's eyes.
Upon seeing her wide, childlike eyes, the tender-hearted son of Yashoda softened instantly.
"Lakshmi, don't worry. They won't scold you. I was just joking." Krishna said and a whoosh of air left Lakshmi's lips in relief.
"Whew!" She muttered jokingly, pretending to wipe the sweat off her forehead.
"You cheeky little monkey." Krishna said smilingly and she looked up at him with a broad grin.
"I learnt from the best." She replied and both of them once again burst into loud laughter.

"Pranam Yuvarani. Pranam Rajkumari Rukmini. Pranam Rajkumari Jambavati. Pranam Rajkumari Satyabhama. Dwarkadheesh has arrived at the palace with Aryā Lakshmi." A handmaiden said, bowing her head and the royal women simultaneously let out sighs of relief.
"Hey Ida Mata!" Revati exclaimed thankfully, closing her eyes in prayer.
"Here, take this as a reward for the good news." Satyabhama said, taking off a gold ring from her finger and giving it to the young maiden who smiled in delight and accepted it humbly with both hands.
"My deepest gratitude, Rajkumari Satyabhama." The maid murmured before seeing herself out.
"Rukmini, please stop worrying now. She is alright." Revati told the first wife of Krishna who had been pacing the length of the room.
