Dwarka
Pratipada, Chaitra Shukla Paksha, 5000 BCE
"I never imagined I would be standing in your chamber one day." Lakshmi commented.
"It's beautiful." She added while watching him adjust the angavastram on his shoulder. Her keen eyes roved around the wide chamber once again before they settled on a shiny object resting in a round silver tray. Jumping up she went towards it and picked it up.
"May I?" She asked hopefully, holding an aureate crown in her hands from where she was standing, just a few feet away from Krishna.
The lotus-eyed lord of Dwarka looked up from where he was fixing his armlet and met her eager gaze through the mirror before giving her a gentle smile.
With a silent squeal of joy, she hopped closer to him while he turned around and ducked his head low enough for her to fix the crown on his midnight black curls.
Lakshmi went on her tiptoes and carefully placed the headgear on his blazing forehead, her fingers lightly brushing the tips of his ears as she did so.
"Perfect," She murmured, going back down on her heels and turning him around diligently to face the mirror once more.
"Just perfect." She finished, gazing at his reflection.
Krishna turned around and lightly held her shoulders. "Now that you have helped me complete my appearance, how about I help you to do the same by taking you to Rukmini?'
"Don't tease me!" Lakshmi whined, upon noticing the teasing glint in his eye."You know that I am absolutely hopeless when it comes to managing my hair!"
"But yeah, sure." She grumbled defeatedly before hooking her arm around his and starting to march them out of the double doors.
"Slow down, my dear Chanchala! Atleast let me wear my footwear first." Krishna laughed and Lakshmi halted in a flash, looking down at her own bare feet.
"Oops?" She offered, laughing nervously before uncurling her arm from around his.
"Your enthusiasm and innocence is so refreshing, it reminds me of Subhadra." Krishna told her while he wore his paduka.
"When will she be back? Don't they have holidays in this era?" Lakshmi questioned.
"She will be back only after her guru deems that she has completed her education. It may be another six to eight years." Krishna answered.
"Six to eight years? Yaar, hats off to the kids of this age. I would have never survived not seeing my parents for years."
"Don't be silly, every child gets used to living away from home." Krishna chided gently. "You would have too."
"How old is she now?" She asked after a momentary pause.
"She is twelve years old now." Krishna replied and she let out a low whistle.
"Well, wow. If she is twelve years old, does that mean you are about twenty-four years old?" She asked, looking up at him as they walked across the garden on the right to reach his wives' palace, hoping for an answer.
But all she got was an amused smile and a wink, making her stop in her tracks.
"Does that smile mean I am right?" She called out.
"I do think a five years age difference is better than 7500 years, don't you?" Krishna said serenely, looking at her over his shoulder.
"I do."
