Chapter 5

Ben's Pov

I looked in the cabinets for a lollipop but I couldn't find one anywhere! First no Mr. Smoothies now zero candy! Great.

I walked outside and saw Grandpa Max showing Sage how to start a fire without magic. She seemed to be doing pretty well for her first time. I continued looking around for my stash of lollipops until I finally found some.

Grape lollipops!

I pumped my fist in the air and shoved a few in my pocket. I saw Sage's wish pendant necklace thing and her Starzap. Didn't she need it?
I took it with me outside and walked over to Grandpa Max and Sage.

"Hey, Ben wanna help?" He asked as he put more firewood into the fireplace. Sage was placing coal in the fireplace and had soot on her face.

"Uh sure." I said not really paying attention. But at least I could try to talk to Sage. "Alright, I'm going to go to the bathroom." He stood up and walked to the Rust Bucket.

Sage and I gave each other weird glances before looking back at Grandpa. He left and we both began to go to work. I carried the wood and put it in the fireplace while Sage added the coal.

Then Sage would practice setting a fire without magic. She was getting better with each try.

"Hey, do you need this?" I asked her holding her necklace out to her. She looked at it and then back to me.

"Uh yeah, actually I do." She gently took it out of my hand. Her hands were soft and smooth.

She took the necklace and put it on. Then she muttered something and turned into a human. Her tan skin lost its glow and sparkle and her hair went to chestnut brown with a lavender streak in her bangs. Her eyes were a dark chocolate brown and her glowing star-shaped freckle became a normal birthmark. Her lip color changed from dark purple to a soft skin tone like pink.

She was gorgeous.

"Hey, are you good?" She asked me confused and waving her hand in front of my face.

I snapped out of the trance and looked away. "S-sorry." I said looking away and putting the wood back.

She just laughed and smiled. "Nah you're good I just wanted to make sure you remembered me." She said whipping tears from her eyes.

"Ha ha ha!" I said rolling my eyes. "But seriously how did you do that?" I asked amazed wanting to know more about Starlings and their technology.

"Well, a magician never shares his or her secrets." She said making weird hand movements. It was honestly really funny to me.

"Where have you heard that saying? Isn't this your first time on earth?" I asked confused. Honestly, this whole thing was confusing.

"No actually I have been on earth several times. I'm still learning about it though." She said proudly.

"Oh right. To grant wishes."

"Yup!"

"So you're like a genie?" He asked fiddling with his watch. I pause in my movements and looked at him.
