Alex surveyed the situation. He had only 300 life points remaining whereas Klein had 1700. He had no cards in his hand or field. Klein only had his ultimate boss monster ready on his side of the field, Empowered Overlord (ATK: 6800). Wrapped around its purple bubble that gave it immunity to destruction and targeting by card effects, the evil overlord laughed at him. The monster counted as every level it needed to activate Klein's field spell, Ruins of the Empowered City's effects.

"I'll draw!" Alex began his draw phase, entering his Standby immediately after.

"Empowered Overlord's effect! During every Standby and End Phase, it will attempt to destroy itself, despite its immunity. This will trigger its second effect to raise its attack by 300!" Klein reminded Alex as his Overlord's ATK became 7100.

"I normal summon Elemental HERO Liquid Soldier (ATK: 1400)!" Alex called out a torrent of water, shapeshifting into a warrior in a blue and black suit.

"Due to Ruins of the Empowered City, as long as I control a level 8 monster, all monsters you control lose 500 attack. Overlord is always treated as a level 3, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12 monster."

The HERO fell to one knee as his ATK lowered to 900.

"That's fine by me. Liquid Soldier can special summon any HERO monster in my graveyard! Return to the field, Super HERO Emerald Claw (ATK: 1400)!" Alex called out his green warrior, who bared her energy constructed claws at the Overlord, "Emerald Claw's effect! Once per turn: I can halve your monster's attack and add it to her's! Siphon it, Emerald Claw!"

Depowered by the field spell's effect, she fell to one knee as well, but then raised her claws and drained purple energy from the Overlord's bubble, turning it into green energy that enlarged her energy claws by a staggering degree. Empowered Overlord roared as its ATK fell to 3550 while Emerald Claw's rose to 4950.

"If you think you can finish me off with her second ability, you'd be wrong. Empowered Overlord has another effect I haven't told you about. It can't be destroyed by monsters that share a level with it, regardless if it's by battle or the monster's effect." Klein revealed, "And I've already listed every level it's always treated as. You can't win."

"You know, if we're sharing effects that we haven't revealed, then boy do I have an effect to tell you!" Alex grinned, "Alright, it's time to show off! I overlay my 2 (LV 4) HERO monsters on the field to Xyz Summon!"

A tremendous power shook the earth as a spiral of black space appeared on the floor. Shimmering stars of endless possibilities could be seen inside, but only for those who dared to cross through. Liquid Soldier and Emerald Claw were swept inside, releasing out a burst of light.

"With this, a new HERO is born! Reveal yourself to this world, (RK 4) Super HERO Cosmic Shockwave (ATK: 2700)!" Alex summoned an Xyz monster wearing white armour on its join while the rest was covered in pink-ish mist that crackled with red lightning. Red fins stuck out from its elbows and from behind its knees. Two glowing yellow eyes broke through the mist, staring at the Empowered Overlord.

Green energy swirled around the monster, giving it an additional 1000 ATK.

"What?!" Klein exclaimed, both in anger and in confusion.

"Emerald Claw's third ability. When she's used for an Xyz summon, the Xyz monster gains an additional effect to gain 1000 attack points." Alex explained, "Now your monster is 350 attack points short of mine!"
