His eyes darken as he stops in track. "Careful, darling, if you don't put the gun away I'll have to assume you were using me this whole time."
My hands are steady for the first time today. No shaking in sight. My confidence rose altogether with my glock.
I raise a brow. "Is that so? Don't you think there are already enough circumstances telling me the opposite is true?"
He humms, eyes glistening mischievously. "I never lied to you."
"No," I answer sassily, "only kept relevant information from me."
A smirk appears on his features. "I'm sure you'll be able to forgive me, given the circumstances." He gets serious. "You could have died if I had told you something. I had a plan for your husband, you would have complicated it or you would have been in danger."
I huff, not allowing myself to be naive again. I will not take this shit anymore.
"Was fucking me part of your plan, Avan?"
"No," he says, dead serious. "Actually it was the opposite. There are far more disadvantages from our arrangement for me, considering the plan. At last I couldn't be sure if you were send by him to spy on me or kill me."
I furrow my brows. "Not quite sure if you've noticed, but you currently have a gun in your face."
He's back to the usual sly smirk again, walking toward me until the weapon is pressed against his chest. My eyes widen, gaze switching between his calm expression and the gun in my hands.
I can't bring myself to shoot but I, realistically, never planned on doing it in the first place. I mean, I brought it for self defense- just in case something would have happened. Not to actually kill him.
His left hand wraps around my own, making me lower the weapon, my skin burning where it meets his.
"Oh, I've noticed," Avan chuckles. I feel his hot breath fan my ear right after he tilted his head down to answer me. "I also noticed that you left the safety clip on, Soph."
The deep voice vibrates through my body once again. I close my eyes, licking my lips.
"You're not here to kill me." He murmurs. "So tell me... What's the real reason, hm?"
I gulp while Avan takes the gun from my grip and moves his body away from mine, giving me room to breath again.
My gaze fixes itself onto the glock he's casually holding in his right hand. Alarmed by his doing, my eyes find his.
"It's okay, love. I'm not going to hurt you. Just making sure you don't get any ideas. You'll get it back before you leave, okay?"
His calming energy relaxes me instantly and I have no idea why. Out of obvious reasons I should be terrified.
"Fine." I answer, still a bit paranoid.
"What exactly is your plan against my husband?" I add.
"If you want to talk business, we should go to my office." He orders, gesturing to a room at the end of the hallway. I look into the direction, back to him while debating whether I should trust him or not, then start walking hesitantly after deciding to risk it.
We enter the room one after the other and I take a seat in front of a dark desk. Before he sits down, he gets me a drink from a mini bar in the corner.
"So?" I ask after thanking him.
"Well, your husband is one disgusting man. Way worse than you can probably imagine." Avan's dark eyes dart to me with a searching look in them, but I lower my gaze avoidingly- down to my glass.
