"So... How are we doing, babe?" Gina takes the cup from the waiter, holding it out to her over the table. "Thank you," she says shortly after with a nod and a polite smile.
I can't help myself but supress a knowing smile. I told her to meet me here at my favorite café to tell her everything that has happend over the last days. And let me tell you- there's a lot to unpack.
"Well, I went to my bank to clear out all accounts. There's nothing left. The money is safe, though, don't worry. What else? Ah, yes. I secured everything we own which could get some cash. Watches, gold, investments... You get me." I begin.
I look at her and am met with the most surprised expression I've ever seen on her.
"You're really out to get him, huh?"
"I am. I'm serious. Deadly." I answer.
She puts the coffee down onto the wooden table, then adjusts herself in her seat. "Okay, okay. That's good. Really good. But you made sure that your actions are legal, right?"
"Of course, Gina. The companies are mine legally. I signed the contracts, therefore I'm the owner. I don't get into trouble unless his illegal activities get discovered by the police. I'll change some things and take care of that."
She furrows her brows. "I thought you wanted nothing to do with his business?"
I take a sip myself, enjoying the fresh tea. "Let's just say there'll be some changes."
Gina huffs, eyeing me suspiciously. "I hope you know what you're doing, Sophia."
I meet her piercing gaze with ease. "I am. Trust me."
A few heartbeats pass and you can practically see her inner conflict.
"Okay." she sighs at last, giving in. "Then here, take a look at the contract... You asked me to get you one, I delivered." She pulls out a folder, reaching out to me before I take it.
I take a quick look inside and read the big letters on top. Divorce agreement.
"Thank you, Gina. Seriously, I couldn't have done it without you. I'm so so grateful and I would be very happy to keep you as my lawyer in the future. And as my friend."I smile at her, waiting for her response.
"How could I say no with you looking at me like a goddamn puppy?" She laughs and my smile widens.
"Oh, I almost forgot..." Gina takes her bag again, searching for something else. A few seconds later her well manicured hand appears again, holding two tickets between her fingers.
"I have no fucking clue why you're suddenly into ice hockey but here. I got you the two tickets you asked for."
"Thanks. You can keep the other one. I'll pay for them, of course but you have to do me one more favor. Can you maybe go to the game? You can take your man with you if I can get one of the tickets afterwards."
She narrows her eyes, obviously confused. "You're scaring me with your sudden interest in sports but whatever. The less I know the better."
"Is that a yes?" I ask, hopeful.
"Yes. It's a yes."
"Thank you so much, Gina. You're the best! You won't regret it, I swear." I promise.
She sighs with a smile. "You better be right, Soph. You better be right."
I hear a beep coming from my phone and even though I already know what it means, I just have to take a look at the screen.
Table reservation confirmed. Two guests at 7 pm.
I supress a grin, then put my phone aside. The number was anonymous but I knew who it was and what it really meant.
They kidnapped Luigi and I would meet them in an hour.
I put my phone away and turn my attention back to my friend.
"So, what's up with you and your man? You haven't told me anything about him yet."Immediately, she smiles from one ear to the other.
"He's great, really. Not to be dramatic but he single handedly restored my faith in mankind. He's supportive, sweet, has emotional intelligence- unlike other idiots out there- and he is so big. Man, his arms are bigger than my head..." She swoons.
"You're so in love with him, huh?" I rather state than ask because it's more than obvious.
"I do. Ugh, I thought I'd stay the cool, rich, single aunt forever but I'm so down bad for him."
"I'm honestly so happy for you and don't worry, I can be the aunt for your future children. Only if you want to have kids, of course." I answer, smiling at her.
"I don't know about that yet but I could imagine myself with some mini me's. And mini him's. I can't believe I'm seriously thinking about having children, but I don't know, Soph- I think he could be the one."
"Alright, alright. I still don't know his name, Gina. I already know more about him than about my own father but not his damn name." I laugh.
"His name's Liam." She grins.
I hum, then joke: "It certainly does pass the is-it-moanable-test."
She chuckles and we continue to chat about her relationship, work, high school and everything else coming to our minds. It's great to have her back and it feels like nothing has changed really. It's moments like these that make me realise how much I missed to have girl friends. Or friends in general. My life consisted of Luigi, Luigi and more Luigi and needless to say- it sucked.
I enjoy the time with Gina with the cake and the tea and our heated discussions about the drama at school back then. While sipping on my black tea I supress the thoughts in the back of my mind that tell me I'll have to meet my husband this evening. And more importantly- make important decisions later.
Decisions which will change my life forever. Decisions, which could cost me literally everything.
