The floor creaked a lot. No matter where she seemed to step, it made noise. Was the floor always this bad? She didn't feel like it was. Maybe it was just her ears playing tricks on her? It couldn't be that loud. Especially since no one had come out of their rooms to look for the source of the noise.

The stairs creaked a lot too. But that was normal. They did that all the time. Didn't make going down them quietly any easier, though. She just had to tread very carefully. Just a few more steps and she'd be down. Then just a bit more until-

"Hanayagi-san?"

Kaoruko froze in her tracks at the voice, "Tendou-han? Um... I was just coming to get a drink."

"I see..."

For some reason, Maya was awake. That ruined her entire plan. She couldn't leave now. Not when there was literally someone right there. Oh well, she'd have to try another night. She better get a drink. Better make this lie actually believable.

After getting a glass of water, Kaoruko walked over to where Maya was. She was in the living room, sitting on the couch. She was hugging her knees to her chest. The TV was off. There was nothing around. It was weird.

Kaoruko took a seat beside her, "Why are you up?"

Maya didn't reply. She tightened her grip on her legs. Kaoruko wasn't sure what to do. Should she just go back to bed? It felt wrong to leave Maya when it was clear something was bothering her.

But, Maya probably wouldn't tell her. She tended to keep personal things to herself. Kaoruko doubted she had any chance of getting an answer from said girl.

"I had a nightmare..."

Or... maybe not. So, Maya had a nightmare. And came down here. That still didn't explain much.

"Why'd you come down here?" Kaoruko questioned.

She felt that might have been too harshly delivered. She wasn't very good at this stuff.

"I can't sleep... and I keep seeing things in my room..." Maya mumbled, "It's stupid..."

"Hmm... yeah, it is. But, nothing you can do about it." Kaoruko said, "You can't control it."

"Are you going back to bed?"

Kaoruko didn't respond right away. She did want to do that, but leaving Maya felt wrong. Staying for a little while wouldn't hurt, would it? Not like she had planned to sleep for a while anyway.

"No. I think I'll stay for a bit. I'm not really tired yet." Kaoruko stated.

"You don't have to..."

"Don't have to what?"

"Stay with me... I'm fine..."

"Who said I was staying for you?" Kaoruko huffed, "You just happen to be here. Care if I turn on the TV?"

Maya shook her head. Kaoruko grabbed the remote and turned on the TV. After turning the volume down, she found a movie on to watch. She mainly ignored Maya, though she occasionally glanced over at her. Maya seemed to have eased up a bit. She wasn't as tensed up now and appeared to also be watching the movie.

Kaoruko was glad to know that this was working. She wasn't going back on this now. She was too far into it to leave. And it wasn't like she had anything better to do. Not since her plans of sneaking out had been ruined. This movie was pretty interesting too. She didn't mind watching it.
