" So, you're telling me your mother found out you spent the entire summer with your girlfriend?" I asked in disbelief. Hyunjoo gave me a hesitant nod, clearly uncomfortable.

" But I was in Paris all summer. How on earth did you convince her it was me?" I demanded, looking at him as if he had completely lost his mind.

" Yuri backed me up." He muttered, avoiding eye contact. " She told mom you stayed here for a month before flying off to Paris."

I scowled. " You twins... dragging me into your mess again."

" You're lucky my hands are busy right now," I said through gritted teeth, glaring at him while the nail technician worked on my manicure. " Otherwise, I'd whack you for the situation you put me through."

" So, who's this poor, unfortunate girl anyway? The one you're so desperately hiding from your mom?" I mocked, half-pitying the girl who'd clearly fallen for his so-called charms.

Hyunjoo looked down, his voice soft. " It's a secret. Besides she broke things off between us since she wants to focus on her studies this semester. I respect her decision, even though... it hurt."

His rare sincerity made me sigh. I leaned back so the makeup artist could finish my eyeshadow. " Fine. I'll help you out tonight. But after this, tell your mom we broke up. Say I hit my head somewhere and realized I was an idiot for ever agreeing to date you." I smirked, adding a final jab.

To my surprise, he laughed. I grinned, closing my eyes as they applied the finishing touches.
