It feels my father is fashioning farm tools inside my head.

Sabin had no idea how he'd ended up back in his bed, or what happened to Terrick. He hoped he had a similar sickness after last night.

"Lovely morning," Terrick voice rattled his skull and the door slammed against the wall.

Sabin covered his ears. "Could you not be so loud? And how are you not in pain?"

"A good meal before drinking helps. Would you like to repeat last night? You seem to be awake and talking now, a great improvement over the last few days."

"Why are you still shouting?" Sabin whispered. "And no, I would not though I thank you for what you did."

"My pleasure. I would warn you that it is mid-morning and you have missed the bustle of the first-meal crowd. I suggest a meal now before the second-meal crowd arrives if you want that headache to relent."

Sabin rose and held his head, stumbling to the door. Just outside, a Yuan soldier stood next to his door. The man was dressed in his red and black robes, without the stone armor and green-threaded dreadlocks streaked down his back. He trailed Sabin as he turned towards the stairs.

I imagine if he wanted to kill me he would have tried much sooner.

"Do you need my assistance, Dragon?" the man asked.

"Why is everyone yelling?" Sabin whispered. "I am fine."

"As you wish."

He focused on getting downstairs as slowly as possible. Sabin found the nearest empty table and sat down, hoping the pain would recede. A plate of tomato, sausage and rice slid in front of him. Sabin turned and was met with the brown face of his door guard.

"Thank you," he said. "But I did not ask for this."

The soldier smiled. "You do not need to ask. It is an honor to serve the Dragon."

Sabin cleaned his plate in seconds. "Why do you call me that?"

"It is not for my lips to tell."

A brown-haired woman sat down next to him and smiled while handing him another plate. "I told Terrick to take it easy on you last night. It seems like he ignored my advice."

"And you are?"

"Disa. I'm a friend of Terrick's."

"Then I thank you for my life." He turned to the soldier who was standing close by, hands behind his back. "I should thank you as well...?"

"Fourth Blood Damis. And no, it was the blue-haired gentleman and this young lady. We never suspected the Merchant Governor and you have my deepest apologies for such a failure Dragon. It will not happen again."

"Wait, Fatima tried to kill me?"

"Yes."

Sabin tried to think of why she would do such a thing, but the only thing we could come up with was the Guan.

Why wouldn't she just try when we were under her roof? Can I not trust anyone?

"Eat before it gets cold," Disa chided. "We can talk more later."

"The time for talking is done."

Sabin recognized that voice from Sikati. It was that old woman that tried to stop Yulan, Ira. He turned her walking towards him, her face drawn.

"Leave me, I want nothing to do with you," Sabin said. He turned back to his plate and continued to eat.

"That is not your choice, child. Get up."
