Time was irrelevant in the Infinite DC, but it naturally felt like forever since Sonia had left Alan behind in one of the Gotham City realms. It was a choice that he made willingly. He fell in love with a woman – Detective Erica Harvey – and grew into a man capable of making his own decisions. Sonia respected him for that, yet she still missed having him around in the TARDIS, brightening even the dourest of days with a laugh and a smile.

A part of her believed Alan's decision was based on the fact that, in their last journey together, she regenerated. Once a statuesque Caucasian blonde of middle age and a powerful build, she had transformed into a short Asian woman who was slightly younger and more attractive. As "Sonia," she faced a lot more challenges in her personal travels – specifically encountering worlds and eras where she was racially discriminated.

In spite of the bigotry, she loved being Sonia – oval-shaped eyes, jet black hair, olive skin, well-toned muscles, and all. In many ways, she felt more of a mother to Alan (an African American) than she had when she was Candace. Unfortunately, that time they would've had together was cut short.

On the other side of the spectrum, she gained new traveling companions in Mystery Inc. and the friends from Sesame Street, the latter whose world she established as a temporary rest stop. Her TARDIS was parked atop one of the apartment buildings, presumably the one where Bert and Ernie lived. The Mystery Inc. kids (Fred Jones, Daphne Blake, Velma Dinkley, Norville "Shaggy" Rogers, and Scooby-Doo) tagged along as new residents themselves.

One day, Sonia – while in the accompaniment of Elmo and Daphne – received a video call in the TARDIS. She put the caller up on the console monitor and was surprised when she saw the face of her son. "Alan?!" she cheered.

He looked just the same as he did when they parted ways.

He still had his chiseled jawline, that smooth fade haircut, and puppy dog eyes.

They were hints to Sonia that not much time had passed for him in Gotham.

"Hey, Mama," he waved from the live feed on the monitor. It warmed her hearts to hear him address her as his mother. Her regeneration was initially difficult for him to accept, losing one mom and gaining another.

Glad as she was to receive his call, she still wondered, "How did you get my number? I forgot to leave it with you."

"You kiddin'?" Alan smirked. "I still got it memorized!"

"Aw, bless your heart!" Sonia gushed. "Elmo and Daphne are here with me."

She moved aside long enough to show the two colorful characters behind her. "Hiya, Alan!" Daphne waved and smiled. "Long time, no see!"

"Elmo missed you, Alan!" Elmo corresponded with Daphne's sentiment.

"I missed ya'll, too," Alan said. "And, hey, I got a surprise." He bent out of frame momentarily, allowing Sonia, Elmo, and Daphne to get a glimpse of the stunning home interior he and Erica shared. When Alan returned, in his arms was a three-month-old baby in a blue onesie. "Mama, meet your new grandson: A.J."

Sonia's hand lightly touched her full, lush lips, shielding the light gasp that got past them, when she laid eyes on her grandbaby. "Alan, he's..." She was so overwhelmed that she could barely get the word out. "He's beautiful." Tears streamed from her eyes as she looked little A.J. over, zooming in on the console monitor, so that his fresh, puffy face filled the screen. He had all the best features of both his parents, including his father's eyes and his mother's nose.
