Notes:

inspired by this tik tok: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTRqy2V3A/

(this fic is based off the original, where inside the present was a rope and instructions on how to tie a knot. it got taken down so the creator reposted it with a Japanese Death Flower (I think). The meaning is in its name, and it means death.)

(In the original, it was Izuku who received the present, because in the original au he was bullied for being quirkless [duh]. but i decided that the INVERTED MHA au (this means katsuki would take izuku’s place and izuku would take katsuki’s place) would go great with my angsty vibes on Ao3. so here it is! Enjoy the fic! :] )

Chapter 1: and i hate to do this to you on your birthday. . .

Izuku had always been cruel. To him, to others. But Katsuki thinks it is only natural, since they are being raised to be villains. Villains are cruel. They are mean and vicious, ruthless and merciless. Izuku is all of these things and more. If Katsuki’s heart was warm and red, then Izuku’s was cold and hard and black. Izuku was rough like the calluses that grew on hard-working hands, Izuku was bad like bad guys in the movies, Izuku was evil to the bone.

Izuku was everything a villain aspired to be. Izuku was the person every villain-wannabe looked up to. He was good at being bad, Katsuki was not. Katsuki supposes that’s why Izuku bullies him. Because Katsuki is not good enough to be bad. Katsuki is not good enough for anything. Izuku reminds him of this fact every moment of every day; he lets Katsuki know that he is useless, worthless, waste of space nobody  that shouldn’t have been born by harassing him constantly. Whether it be at school or on Katsuki’s way home, it does not matter to Izuku, as long as he gets to hurt Katsuki one way or another.

It’s Katsuki’s birthday today. Not like that would make the day different by any means. Today will be like every day. Izuku will taunt and torture him if he catches Katsuki on the way to school. Then Izuku will throw him around at school, and then he’ll antagonize Katsuki on the way home from school. So Katsuki doesn’t celebrate his birthday. Why should he, if nothing was going to be different about it?

Katsuki is turning fourteen. But there will be no cake, no candles. No Happy Birthday song sang in the cafeteria. Not that Katsuki minds. He was used to being ignored and unwanted and it was nothing new to him.

Katsuki doesn’t even bother to spare the energy to flinch when he hears Izuku’s quiet but loud footsteps gaining up behind him. Though, his body does begin to tremble with fearful anticipation, an uncontrollable shiver rolling down the knobs of his spine. He jolts to a violent stop when Izuku’s Quirk ripples out and grasps him in its cold hands, freezing him in place.
