It was morning. The campfire was still burning. Joel's eyes snapped open. Joel quickly sat up and saw Ellie and Y/N standing guard, guns readied in case they needed.

Ellie: Still mumbling in your sleep.

Y/N: We woke up early. You fell asleep so we took second watch.

Joel told them they gotta wake him if that happens.

Joel: You can't do things like this. That goes for you too, Y/N.

Ellie: I can though.

Y/N: Joel. I can do as I wish.

Joel sighed.

Joel: I'm responsible for her.

Ellie: Then don't fall asleep. We were quiet, we checkedour six. We looked for the tracks.

Y/N: I had the high ground.

Joel nodded, silently giving his approval.
Ellie handed Joel his rifle that she used to guard with. Joel slung the rifle around his shoulder.

Joel: Wake me up next time.

Ellie: Yes sir!

-

The two looked at the River of Death and saw no one. Joel relented.
The trio walked, the snow crunching under foot was soothing to Jack.

The three walked to a bridge that crossed over the river. They began crossing it. Ellie looked behind them, showing some fear.

-

Ellie was trying to whistle, Joel questioned her on not knowing how to whistle.

Ellie: Does it sound like I know how to whistle?

Joel: No.

Ellie passed by Joel and Y/N and asked how it was even done.

Y/N: You have to have talent.

Ellie: Whatever. Y/N, you should teach me how to hunt.

Y/N: When we get time.

-

The three made it to a dam.

Ellie: Dam.

Joel told her she wasn't Will Livingston.

Ellie: Yeah, yeah, but who is?

Ellie: So that makes electricity.

Y/N: Yeah. Wish I knew how it does it.

Ellie looked at Joel and he told her he didn't have a clue how it works.
The three started walking again and Ellie said if Joel just made something up, she would have believed him.

-

The three of them walked past a river.
Ellie pointed out how blue it was.

Ellie: Hey, what if this is the River of Death?

Joel turned to look at Ellie and the three stopped to look at the river.
Joel pulled out his map. The three walked slowly as Joel read the map.

A group on horses pulled up, the three tried to run, but they were surrounded. The people had their guns pointed at them.

Y/N: Ellie, behind me.

Ellie got behind Y/N.

Joel: We ain't lookin' for trouble.

Y/N: We're just passing through.

One of the riders asked Y/N what was wrong with him.

Y/N: I suffer from several medical problems, sir. They make me look like this. I was stabbed in the throat once, it's why I sound like this.

???: Okay. Drop the guns.

Joel and Y/N dropped their guns.

One of them told Ellie to take five steps back.

Joel: How 'bout we just talk this through?

???: How 'bout you shut the fuck up?

Joel: Okay. Easy.

Y/N told Ellie she'll be okay. Ellie took five steps back.

???: You been near any Infected?

Y/N: There's no Infected out here.

???: The hell there ain't.

The man on the horse whistled.
A man with a barking dog walked toward the three.

???: Last chance for a bullet. If you've been infected, he will smell it and he will rip you up.

Ellie was afraid, but she tried not to show it.
Y/N, he was afraid for her.

The dog walked up to Joel and sniffed him. The dog then became friendly with Joel.
The dog went back to it's trainer.

Joel: Like I said, we'll just move on.

The man paused, his rifle still pointed at them, he wasn't sure he believed what Y/N said.

???: Now him.

Ellie's heart sank into her chest, and Joel's ears started ringing as his worry got greater.

The dog walked to Y/N. And what happened next surprised Joel and Ellie.

The dog jumped onto him and he fell to the ground as the dog started licking him.
Y/N laughed as he played with the dog before standing up. Ellie breathed a sigh of relief, Joel did too.
They didn't test Ellie because they believed Joel. They tested Y/N because of how he looked.

The trainer whistled for the dog.

???: What are you doin' out here?

Joel: I'm just lookin' for my brother. That's all, nothin' more.

A woman on her horse slowly rode up to the three and asked Joel for his name.

Joel: Joel.

She asked Y/N for his.

Y/N:. . . Jack.

The was a pause.

-

They rode into a town that had log walls surrounding it. Joel was on his own horse and Y/N rode one with Ellie. They took in their surroundings, an entire settlement.

Y/N and Joel stopped their horses when they saw who they came to see. Tommy. He was working on a pulley. Joel yelled his name.
Joel got off his horse as Tommy hurried to him.

The two brothers hugged,
Y/N gave a smile. He wished his reunion with Jack was like that.

Joel and Tommy broke the hug and Tommy asked what he was doing here.

Joel: I came here to save you.

Joel laughed and so did Tommy.
The two gave another hug.

Tommy looks like you seen a ghost riding a horse.

Tommy broke the hug that he and his brother shared, and only one word exited his mouth.

Tommy: N/N?
