-6:00 in the morning-
*AIR HORN*
"Rise and shine you dumb nugget! get your sleepy ass up!" screamed James pressing an airhorn which startled Issei awake. Ever since he joined Strider Squadron, the poor boy was constantly subjected to training and was constantly punished whenever his perverted tendencies tried to take over, one such incident where he peeped on Huxian resulted in him getting 400 hundred pushups with James sitting on his back! 'I am definitely going to throw away my perversion if i do that again!' thought the terrified brunette as he was putting on his military uniform. "20 minutes, a new record. Come on shrimp, we have another day of lessons." mused James looking at his stopwatch and left the room as Issei soon followed.
You see James requested to help and train Issei as he was the latest recruit before Issei enlisted. As harsh as he was to the brunette, James was only trying to toughen poor Issei up to be prepared as a member of the military. And from the looks of it, it was doing it's job well.
"Alright, the lesson i'll be teaching is what we pilots know when combat is inevitable: a dogfight." said James while explaining while pointing to a chalkboard. "A dogfight is a fight between two different pilots, i already know sir." said Issei respectfully. "Good to know, now a furball, is basically a dogfight but with your allies and your enemy's allies joining the fight. Compared to a dogfight, a furball is much more diffcult as you might shoot down your fellow pilots by accident as enemy pilots can also pull off certain moves in a dogfight, though it is very rare and if you are skilled enough, you can pull it too." James explained further as Issei wrote down on his notebook. "I'll keep that in mind sir." said Issei while writing down. "Good to hear that private, now finish that writing soon, because you're going to have your first flight as a guy in back or should i say: Whizzo." commented James with a nod. "What plane we'll be using?" asked Issei finishing his notes. "A Strike Eagle. Better get ready." James replied with a smirk.
-F-15E Strike Eagle cockpit and on the airstrip-
"Okay, your other callsign is Wyvern while mine's Hellbat." commented James while starting up the Strike Eagle. "Why a Hellbat?" Issei asked very confused. "I'll explain later. This is Strider 6, are we clear for takeoff?" James replied while asking for clearance. "Strider 6 and Strider 7 await for Strider 5's departure and we'll give you the green light." said a radio officer. "Wilco. Awaiting further instructions." James nodded as Issei was reading the manual.
"Watcha reading?" asked James while glancing at Issei. "Uhh...how the Weapons System Officer operates in a Strike Eagle sir. *looks at a button* this is the flares, *looks at radar and altimeter* this is the other radar and other altimeter and...*looks at ejection handle* the ejection handle to use when in dire straits..." Issei replied while looking around his seat. "You learn pretty quick. Oh look, Tabloid's already taken off. This is Strider 6, are clear for takeoff?" mused James as he asked the radio if they were ready to fly. "Strider 6 and Strider 7, you are now clear for takeoff, everyone's waiting for you." replied the radio officer as James nodded and activated the controls and slowly moved the Strike Eagle at the runway. "You ready Issei?" asked James as he pushed the throttles to full power and the fighter jet's engines were now powering up. "Ready sir." Issei replied as the Strike Eagle's thrusters began to roar and flame. "Alright, here we go!" said James as the Strike Eagle was now picking up speed and soon achieved lift-off.
-Insert BGM: Danger Zone by Kenny Loggins-
"Whoooooooooooooaaaaaaaaa!!!!" Issei screamed once they were now off the ground and soon were approaching high speeds to catch up to the rest of the Strider Squadron. "Hey Issei, what do you see?" asked James with a chuckle. "All i can i see is the back and wings of our fighter jet and the ocean!" yelled Issei clearly scared as heck. "This is Long Caster, how's your first time flying Issei?" asked Long Caster while Issei had to catch his breath a bit. "Uhhh...mix of positive and negative AWACS, i feel excited and scared...but as long as we are not in a fight, then i'll be alright." replied Issei as Long Caster laughed.
-End Insert BGM-
"Hey you rhymed. Nice." commented Count on the radio. "Yeah...i also heard James watches comedy videos where a guy rhymes in prison." mused Issei with a sigh. "You mean Bernard? And he still on hard and big fella is still doing time while gettin hit from behind." said James while Issei was starting to remember and he realized what James was talking about.
The video (never say 'this finna be a breeze' in prison):
'Oh...that...wait he exists here too!? What a world!' Issei thought in shock. Then James began checking the altitude and looked slightly to the side. "Talk to me Issei. What's our status?" ordered the pilot to his WSO. "Uhh...we are at 3500 feel above sea level and we are maintaining speed while our teammates are slightly ahead of us." Issei replied while responding to James' order. "Good to hear. I'm going to pick up some speed." James nodded and pushed the throttles to a higher speed and the Strike Eagle was in formation with the rest of the squad. "So James, what are we going to do?" asked Issei while looking at the sea. "Just a routine sky patrol. But sometimes we get enemies on our radar and we have no choice but to engage the enemy. That's why our jets are armed just in case." James replied while explaining as Issei nodded in understanding.
"How long will this sky patrol take James?" Issei asked as James pulled the throttles to a manageable speed. "30 minutes tops. You'll have to get used to this. You clear?" replied James as Issei sighed and nodded. "Being a fighter pilot is harder than i thought." mused Issei as the radio turned on. "No shit kid. It clearly isn't easier, and trust me, it will only get harder from here." said Trigger on the radio. "I know...but i'll give it my all." Issei sighed in acceptance. "That's the spirit. Don't let us down Issei." said James assuringly. "And welcome to Strider Squadron." added Trigger as Issei made a nod and salute. "Glad to be a part of it sir. I won't let any of you down!" said Issei with conviction as the rest of the team snickered over the radio knowing Issei was going to enjoy what it means to fly in the sky in a fighter jet.
Little did the Sekiryutei knew, that he would realize in three months, a war will break out...and Issei will finally see what a war truly is...and what it means to be a fighter pilot to save lives...
Author's notes: finally finished another one. The following chapter is going to a timeskip after two weeks with a big surprise coming. What's the surprise you say? It's a secret. And as always, take care and see you all later.
