9. Hurry

I quickly park in the parking lot. I look around for James' car or him himself. There's no sign of him, itssafe to come out. I open the door and quickly lock it running in the tall skyscrapper. I remember Adrian telling me he is a lawyer and he at 'Law and Justice'. It's a very well known company in Chicago.

Everyone keeps looking at me weirdly that's when I realize it's my outfit. That's not important right now. I keep trying for Adrian's phone but it won't go through. I dash to the reception with no time to waste. The lady at the front desk looks at me in worry and confusion but controls those feelings.

"Good afternoon, ma'am. How can I help you today?"

"Umm, could I see Adrian Ferri." I say out of breath.

"What did you need him for?"

"Family issues."

"How do you have relation with Mr. Ferri?"

"I-I'm his girlfriend."

"Let me check for you." She looks over to her computer and makes a few calls.

God, could she be any slower. Everyone keeps looking at me. Is it the outfit or is it the fact that I'm under distress and I'm supposedly yelling? Doesn't matter if these people are staring or not, I just need to get out of here with Adrian.

"I'm sorry miss, he's currently in a staff meeting. He won't be available until the next hour."

"I really need to see him, tell him it's important. Tell him it's from Sofia Miles."

"But miss-"

"Please." I say with pleading eyes.

She sighs before she makes another call.

I look at my phone, I should text Teyana. But I can't, I first need to get Adrian. I can't leave without him.

"Mr. Ferri will be on his way."

"Thank you." I smile and she nods.

Before anything, I see Adrian rushing down with people surrounding him. When he sees me, he rushes down to me and hugs me. Automatically I start crying. He stops for a bit and I realize that he's looking at my badly wounded hand. With everything going on, I had forgotten abotu my hand.

"Sofia, what's going on?" He says worry written all over his face.

"We need to get out of here, James is coming!" I say crying heavily.

"Sofia, you're not making any sense."

"When you left, James came and he caught me distracted. He chocked me and cut my hand. He said he wanted to kill you first but I wouldn't tell him were you are. He said if you were not here, he was going to kill what you love most. Me. He was going to kill me and then himself. I was able to run away, but he's coming. Adrian, we have to get out of here!"

He takes some time to process everytI just said. I realize everyone is staring over here. What a scene we're making. Even that rude receptionist seems very invested in this story. I just roll my eyes at her.

"Sir, you can't go now. You have a court case you need to organize due tomorrow." The desk interrupts.

"God, what does this have to do with you?! Just get Eddie to organize it. I have to go as you heard eavesdropping." He says and grabs my hand leading us out the door.

He takes us to his car and he speeds off. While he's driving, I text my mom and Teya.

Teya, James is crazy. I'm okay, I'll explain
everything once everything is settled. Just be
careful, don't let James in your house. Tell mom
and Wendy that. I don't need anything bad
happening. I love you. Be safe xx

"We have to go to the police, we'll be safer there." Adrian says.

I nod.

"Is your hand going to make it, it's bleeding rapidly."

"I hope so."

"I'm just happy you made it out. I don't know what I'd do if I lost you."

"Neither do I. It was really scary, he just came in with a knife, chocked me then tried to cut me."

"I'm sorry you had to go through this, but I'll make it over soon. Do you have any idea why he's acting like this?"

"Maybe it's cause I told him we kissed. But you're his best friend, you should know."

"Not anymore."

Silence.

"I know it's a bad time to ask, but did you say you were my girlfriend to the lady at the frint desk?"

"Yes, sorry. I needed her to get you out. And I'm sorry if I disturbed any important meeting."

"No need, nothing is more important than you."

That's what he said four years ago. But he left, and he's now back.

What is that even supposed to mean?!
