Chapter 41
The room is quiet. All that can be heard is Ryan and I's staggered breathing, post orgasm.
I'm still on the dresser, legs open. Ryan's in front of the mirror, buttoning up his shorts. I try not to stare at him, and focus on catching my breath.
Now that my hormones are out of the way, the anger I felt from earlier was making a slow return.
I still don't know how this happened. One moment I was furious. Furious at his accusations, his actions and the way he spoke to me. Then, the next, we were fucking.
I have to admit that this is very on brand for us.
Ryan clears his throat, and finally speaks up.
"I guess now is the part where I apologize for being a dick."
"Yeah." I'm still breathing heavily. My legs are still spread. "I suppose so."
I'm still mad at him. Also still slightly aroused, but I ignore it this time.
"I'm sorry, Alex." He states. His tone is firm, but sincere. "I didn't mean to snap at you. It's just that you left breakfast without telling me, then showed up hours later wearing another man's shirt."
I won't even pretend like I don't understand where he's coming from. I completely understand, and would've been pissed had he done the same thing to me.
"Understandable." I reply, finally peeling myself from the now sticky dresser. As I get off, I make sure to not step on the shards of glass scattered on the floor from the vase.
"I'm sorry too. I shouldn't have left. I guess I was kind of having a hard time with you and Jenna." Feels stupid to admit now, but it's the truth. "I felt like the third wheel."
"I also want to apologize about that." He continues. "I didn't mean for things to be that way. I should've been more mindful of how we were acting, I didn't even think anything of it."
"Because it feels natural?"
"Because I feel nothing." He corrects me. "I feel nothing towards Jen, so I don't read into our interactions much. But at the end of the day, she's still my ex and I should have paid more attention. I'm sorry."
His words, although brief, settle a majority of my nerves.
"Thank you for saying that." I reply.
"Can we put this whole thing behind us?" He says, pulling me in by the waist. His lips brush against my temple. "I hate arguments. Especially when they're with you."
I expel a relieved sigh.
"Please."
Glancing over at the clock on the wall, I make note that we wouldn't have time to finish our argument anway. It's almost five. The group is supposed to meet later for dinner, and Maggie requested that all the girls show up an hour earlier for drinks.
"I love you," Ryan kisses me softly. "And I missed you while you were gone."
"I missed you too." I admit. "I always miss you."
"Let's skip dinner."
"Maggie will murder us."
"At least we'll die happy."
"You're funny."
Ryan whines a little longer, until the sex we had catches up to him, and he lays down for a nap. I use the time he's asleep to get ready.

In record timing, I'm able to transform my sandy, sun-burnt appearance into something presentable. I wear a simple blue sundress, with thin straps that hug my body nicely.

Romance"What are we doing Alex?" He breathes against my lips. That's too sensible of a question, so I ignore it. My brain has yet to return to my body, and right now that is the last thing I'm worried about. "Stay." I whisper against his mouth, my words f...
