September 1994 - Hogwarts Express
The more time I spent with Draco, the less suspicious my dad got. I think it made him think we were solidifying a friendship and nothing more. But it was still incredibly weird. I wasn't sure if he cared more about me dating Draco or me breaking his only rule. There was obviously some sort of connection between our families, but usually that would be the reason to encourage dating. He had to leave early to get to Hogwarts a couple of days before school. Draco held my hand as we ran onto the platform and once again I was enraptured in the glory of the wizarding world. We walked hand in hand to the train until we heard an annoying voice behind us.
"Draco?" it said. We turned to see a girl with neatly chopped black hair, with two boys on either side of her.
"Pansy," Draco said, letting go of my hand. I looked at him, almost hurt. Why would he let go?
"Who is this?" she asked, arms crossed.
"Oh this is Grace," he said.
"Grace?" Pansy said.
"Snape," I responded confidently, not even looking at Draco, but staring death into Pansy's eyes. Her face dropped in worry.
"She's new," Draco said. "It's a weird story. I'll explain later."
"You're not sitting with us?" Pansy said.
"No, I think Grace and I would prefer to be alone," he said. I looked at him, confused, but excited. "I'll catch up with you at school." Draco took me by the arm, not the hand, and dragged me onto the train. He shut the door to our compartment, sat down, and put his arm around me.
"What was that about?" I asked.
"What?" he said.
"They can't see us holding hands but they can know that you're ditching them for me?" He paused.
"I didn't think you'd want anybody to see. That doesn't mean I don't care about you. It just means I'm trying to be smart about things." My face lightened as I listened to his words. 98%.
"I think you're my new favorite person," I said.
"You've been my new favorite person from the moment I saw you," he said. And he leaned in to kiss me...
"Anything from the trolley, dears?" The doors slid open to see a lady with a trolley of snacks. But not ordinary snacks.
"No thank you," Draco said.
And when she left, we didn't pick up where we left off. After a second I broke the silence.
"I actually do want something," I said, standing up. "I'll be right back. He grabbed my hand and put some money in it.
"Would you get me a pumpkin pasty?" he asked.
I left the compartment and looked down the train to find the trolley was stopped outside another compartment. I walked up to the lady.
"Two pumpkin pasties please," I said, handing her my money. When she bent over to get them I managed to take a look at the guy standing in the doorway. He was staring at me. And when I realized who it was, my heart stopped.
Harry Potter is staring at me.
I let out a faint laugh under my breath.
"Here you go, love," she said.
"Thanks."
I retreated back to my compartment. Seeing Harry set my heart racing for a moment, but that was nothing compared to the overwhelming sense of comfort when I opened the door and saw Draco waiting for me. 99%. Just because.
