September 1997 - Hogwarts
September 28th, 1997.
My eighteenth birthday was on a Sunday. No classes. I specifically told Jane not to throw me a party. I had a plan. Jane and I would go out into Hogsmeade during the day to go shopping and get some lunch. And Draco wanted to take me to this new restaurant that just opened up just outside of Hogsmeade called The Ivory. Supposedly, it's very selective. Draco had to flash around the Malfoy name to get in.
When I woke up, Jane's face was hovering over me like a psycho. I screamed.
"Good morning legal beyotch!" she screamed.
"That's not how I envisioned starting this day," I groaned as I rolled out of bed.
"Oh I know," she said. "You gotta get up. It's already ten."
"It's only ten?!" I said. "I had at least another 2 hours to go."
"What's that Miss get-up-at-6-everyday?" she said, mocking me.
"Not on weekends," I argued.
"Come on, we have so much to do today. Do you have a dress to wear to The Ivory tonight?"
"No," I said. "I'm thinking a little black satin dress."
"You always wear black," she said. "You wore black to the Yule Ball. You wore black to Slughorn's Christmas party. You should wear something other than black."
"It looks good on me," I said.
"Other colors would look good if you gave them a chance."
"I'm wearing black," I said. Jane rolled her eyes. "Draco keeps talking about how exclusive this restaurant is. I'm not taking any chances I have to wear what I know will look good."
"Whatever," she said. "Look what I got." She pulled her pant leg up to reveal her socks...with my face on them. I rolled my eyes. "You know you love them."
"I'm just glad you got socks and not a shirt," I said.
"I did consider getting a shirt," she said.
"Of course you did."
We walked out of my door into the common room to see Draco and Blaise talking on the couch. The common room was mildly crowded.
"Hey, Grace," Blaise said. "Happy birthday."
"Thanks," I said. Draco stood, grabbed me by the waist, and dipped me in front of everyone in the common room. And kissed me of course.
"You're really getting on board with this whole PDA thing, huh?" I said.
"You're not a fan?" he asked.
"Oh, I definitely am. I can't wait to see the look on my dad's face when he inevitably sees."
"Jane, do me a favor," Draco said. "Make sure she finds something...suitable to wear to The Ivory tonight."
"What is that supposed to mean?" I asked, laughing.
"Sure thing, Draco," Jane said.
"Hey, what is that supposed to mean?" I repeated. Draco smirked.
"It means that if you had it your way you'd wear baggy jeans and a baby tee. This place is incredibly sophisticated."
"I can wear something other than baggy jeans and a baby tee," I argued. Draco looked me up and down. I was wearing baggy jeans and a baby tee. "Ok, that was a bad time to make that point."
