'Kennedy, you've really gone and got yourself into it this time haven't you?' she screamed to herself. Only she would have bad enough luck to lash out at the one person capable of ending her life with a nod of his head. How could she have been so foolish, so naive?! As soon as he had introduced himself as Lucian, she felt as if an anvil had been dropped on her head and buckled her down to the ground in a useless, messy puddle.

"I'm sure she is sorry for the way she behaved, sir," Mina pleaded with Lucian. "Please forgive her hostility, this has been a long day for the both of us."

Lucian didn't need to listen to the groveling woman beside his mate to know Kennedy felt like a downright fool. And as pleasurable it would have been to have the little spit-fire beg for forgiveness at his feet, he would never want her to feel forced to humiliate herself in such a way, especially in front of his pack members. They needed to respect her, not look down upon her for being weak.

"I'm sure she is, and as you can see, I'm not harmed," he said dismissively. "I wonder though...Mina is it?" he asked. When she nodded her head yes he continued, "I hear you two have been sent here on a mission of sorts. Could you go with the twins and explain your detailed notes of your findings? Worry not, dear Kennedy will be quite safe with me."

Again, the fragile Mina just nodded her head yes. Coward, Kennedy thought. Make a suggestion to discuss scientific findings and she's out the door faster than Kennedy even had time to object.

Lucian was going to have to handle this carefully to keep Kennedy from running off scared or screaming the house down. But how do you tell someone you are a leader of a community of werewolves, you turn into a wolf yourself, she happened to be his soul mate, would need to go through The Change to become one too and rule by his side as Luna? Yeah, she'd handle that about as well as a PETA activist at a steakhouse.

"So do you mind telling me why we were brought here? I realize Bozo said we were trespassing but we couldn't just assume that when you all aren't even registered on our maps. Let us go and trust me, we won't be back," she said harshly.

His wolf didn't like her tone and now that they were alone wanted her to be taught a lesson on submission. A very pleasurable lesson.

"Is that how you were taught to ask nicely, little one?" Lucian mocked.

"Please," she ground out between clenched teeth and a fake smile.

Oh yes, she would be fun indeed. His mother always said his mate would be a hellcat; he should've known Mommas always right.

"No."

"Excuse me?! You bust my balls to get me to say 'please' just to turn me down with one single word?!" she yelled.

"I haven't busted your anything and after that little public display of affection, I sure as hell hope you don't have balls. The answer to your question about leaving remains 'no.' I have to be confident you aren't some informant spying in the treeline to get information about my pack. We value our privacy here and as you've been warned this isn't something we take lightly," he replied easily.

"P-public display of what?! More like rape you inconsiderate asshole! There's a reason I hate men like you! What the hell do you mean 'pack?' You've obviously been away from society too long mister! And what do you mean calling me a spying informant?! You were probably the bastard spying on me bathing in the river last night weren't you?!" she demanded to know.

This time there was no mistaking when his eyes flashed black. When Bozo did it it'd been too quick, but now it was if they couldn't decide what color they were and kept going back and forth.

"What do you mean while you were bathing? Someone saw you naked?!" he roared.

"Don't play dumb with me Almighty Alpha! That's what I just said you pervert. If we can't go back to camp we can't finish our jobs and we get fired. Surely you aren't that heartless?" she asked calming down somewhat.
