Kennedy had tried all her life to be a positive person and see the good in everyone; but try as she might, she couldn't bring herself to see anything but intense hatred for the she-bitch named Cassie. Kennedy had the suspicion all along she wouldn't care much for the woman trying to steal her mate, but it took no time at all for those presumptions to prove accurate.

Lucian could sense her mixed emotions, predominately anxiety, and took hold of her hand in reassurance as they crossed the threshold to step outside and greet their unwelcome guest. They hadn't even gotten down the porch steps before the red-head threw herself at Kennedy's mate, bumping her unceremoniously to the wayside, instantly sending her temper to dangerous heights.

She wanted to vomit hearing Cassie fawn over Lucian. "Oh Loo-Loo, I've missed you!" she purred while nuzzling his shoulder.

The only thing that kept Kennedy from yanking the woman back by her hair was the disgusted look on his face. He seemed appalled at the use of her nickname, or maybe her proximity, Kennedy couldn't be sure; but it effectively eased some of her concern. She didn't know the history between the two wolves, but it was obvious the feelings weren't mutual amongst the two.

Cassie was clinging to him like a bitch in heat, and Lucian tried in vain to pry her unrelenting grip off his arms. As she continued to croon over how she had missed him, Lucian harshly interrupted her, "Cassie, I know you've heard by now the arrangement is off. I'd like you to meet my mate, Kennedy."

Cassie snapped her head toward Kennedy with an up-turned face, scowling down at her like a dead bird on the sidewalk. It only took a second or two for Cassie to see she was only a frail little human and disregard her presence completely, further aggrivating Kennedy.

"Lucian, you always were one for theatrics, but surely you could have found someone better for your little joke. She's plain; hardly even average- Look at her!"

Lucian did look, but all he saw was perfection- complete and utter perfection. As Cassie laughed at the measly woman before her, Kennedy gritted her teeth and silently glared at the malevolent creature snubbing her off. As much as she would love to knock seven shades of shit out of Cassie, she knew it wouldn't be wise to initiate. She wasn't familiar with pack law and didn't want to endanger innocent lives by unintentionally starting a war. Plus, there was the obvious reason that Cassie was a full-grown she-beast, and herself about a hundred and twenty pounds of stick-and-bones.

Sure, Cassie might have been somewhat correct with her astute observation; she was no Cindy Crawford, but she hadn't exactly been beaten with the ugly stick either! Though she had to admit, compared to Cassie's perfect physique she was painfully bland. The woman was positively stunning.

Standing about 5'9" not taking her four inch stilettos into consideration; it made her tanned legs appear to go on for miles, right up to her jean shorts that could've been painted on. Of course she had the poster-girl boobs and complexion to match, Kennedy thought wryly. Even many super-models would be envious. Kennedy instinctively shrank back a step, feeling overwhelmingly inadequate.

Like she needed another reason to loathe the woman!

Lucian could see this was about to get messy and tried to send comforting thoughts to his mate via their new link. It seemed to work to some extent as he saw her straighten her shoulders and with renewed bravado, spoke up.

"This is hardly a joke, I wear his mark." She pulled her hair aside to show off Lucian's new claim; and while Lucian felt elated at seeing his canine impression on her succulent skin, Cassie nearly choked on her gum.

No woman, especially this pathetic human would steal Lucian away, or her rightful title of Luna, Cassie thought. She'd kill the runt first! She tsked, picking at her manicured nails and feigned indifference, casually replying, "Please, the marks not permanent. In your case nothing is."
