Part Eight

Scott was dipping his feet in the lagoon watching the fish swim around his ankles in melodic circles.

It had been a week since BigB's betrayal and Cleo's sacrifice, and while Scott had been content to just wait to see if Cleo was alright, her son Bdubs wasn't.

Scott couldn't blame him. Cleo had saved him and his brother from being killed when their father found out what she was, and even though Bdubs's brother had been taken away, Bdubs still loved Cleo more then anything in the world.

So Scott didn't object whenever Bdubs went to go look for her

And Bdubs in turn didn't force him or Jimmy to risk their lives helping him.

In truth, Scott was more worried about Jimmy then Bdubs. Ever since BigB's betrayal Scott had noticed Jimmy's hands start to shake.

It worried Scott more then anything that his best friend (who he may or may not have a crush on) was in such bad condition. Even though Jimmy said he was fine, Scott didn't believe it.

In the back of his mind Scott was sure Jimmy only said that so he wouldn't worry.

Which only made him worry more.

The three had built a sort of cabin made mostly out of willing plants and dead/dying trees, and Jimmy spent most of his time inside.

The bushes Scott had made on the far side of the lagoon opened up, and Scott turned his head to see a disappointed Bdubs walk through.

"Let me guess you didn't find her"

"Not even a finger"

"I see, do you think she's back at The Fairy Fort?"

"Maybe, but I can't go there"

"Correction you can't go in there"

"Are you trying to subtly tell me a loophole? Because you should know by now that I'm dense as fuck when it comes to this."

"Fair enough"

"So what were you trying to indirectly tell me?"

"I'm saying that you can go along the outskirts of The Fairy Fort and peek in through there"

"Hate to burst your bubble, but I don't have the plant power you have"

"Then I'll go with you"

"Wait really?!"

"I mean yeah, I miss Cleo and want to make sure she's alright so... yeah I'll go with you"

Bdubs rushed over and hugged Scott tightly.

"Thank you so, so much!" Bdubs said his voice slightly muffled, "no problem" Scott answered, "I'd need to tell Jimmy, and obviously it can't be today, but I'll try"

"Oh right you're boyfriend" Bdubs teased breaking out of the hug.

"Oh come off it he's not my boyfriend!"

"Not yet"

"What the heck is that supposed to mean?"

"Don't worry about it"

"You scare me sometimes Bdubs you know that right"

Bdubs laughed, "yeah I know"

The next day Scott decided to tell Jimmy about the plan, and as Scott predicted he wasn't happy with Scott risking his life.

"It's too dangerous!" Jimmy protested cupping Scott's hands in his, "I know it's dangerous but I have to try, and Bdubs won't be able to do it on his own."

"But what about you!? I need you Scott! I need you more then life on earth!"

"Hey it's ok" Scott reassured as Jimmy started crying, "if it goes south Bdubs will use his powers to keep us safe."

"And if he doesn't?" Jimmy asked, "what will happen then?"

"Then I'll protect myself, trust me Petal it'll be fine"

"But I need you here! I'm scared to be alone!"

"You won't be alone, I'll still be watching over you and keeping you safe through the plants."

Jimmy hugged Scott tightly, "I don't want you to leave though" Jimmy mumbled his voice slightly muffled.

"Hey it'll be alright" Scott promised, "it won't be too long"

"But that's what they all say before they end up dying or being kidnapped or something else that's horrible!"

"This isn't a movie or book, I'm not going to disappear."

"How can I be sure?"

Scott produced a poppy and handed it to Jimmy, "when this poppy dies, that'll be me telling you we're in trouble, and need help, got it?"

Jimmy nodded and wiped the tears from his eyes, "alright... hey Scott-" "Scott!" Bdubs shouted cutting Jimmy off, "it's time!"

"Sorry Jimmy, you're gonna have to tell me afterwards" Scott apologized running out the house to go follow Bdubs. While Scott would've loved to know what Jimmy wanted to tell him, he needed to do this for Bdubs's sake.

And besides, it's not like they were in a book or something.

No, that would be ridiculous.

Scott and Bdubs would return back to Jimmy, and he'd get to hear what Jimmy had wanted to tell him.

That was what was going to happen.

Right?
