ALISTAIR is stood outside the house, having just been unnecessarily cruel to ORLA. He is seething with himself. BENJAMIN emerges.

Benjamin: Everything all right?

Alistair: Mind your own business.

Benjamin: It is not my business that's having trouble.

ALISTAIR looks at BENJAMIN. BENJAMIN is looking at the trees where ORLA disappeared.

She's one of the most extraordinary people I've ever met, y'know. My mate, Tia, I love and care for her deeply. But I do think, had I met Orla first, I wouldn't have left her side.

Alistair: Does Tia know that?

Benjamin: Of course. I tell Tia everything. She wasn't angry. She loves me as much as I love her. She recognises my affection for Orla but knows I will never leave her.

ALISTAIR considers this.

Don't mess it up with her. Or she'll realise all too quickly that you're not good enough.

Alistair: You don't think I'm good enough for her?

Benjamin: I think you could be. But not in your current state. Orla also recognises your potential.

Day 14: Night

Inside the house, ORLA is sat beside MAGGIE, SIOBHAN and LIAM. MAGGIE eyes her anxiously. ALISTAIR walks into the room, he scans. Others eye him then look away. With trepidation, ALISTAIR walks and sits beside ORLA. ORLA raises her eyes at him, clearing her throat.

Alistair: Hello. Liam, Siobhan...and, I don't think we've met.

Maggie: Maggie.

Alistair: Maggie. You can always tell when someone is being truthful?

Maggie: Correct.

Alistair: Have you ever been fooled?

Maggie: No.

Alistair: How would you know?

Maggie: When someone lies it feels like a stabbing in my gut.

Alistair: Even white lies?

Maggie: A lie is a lie.

ALISTAIR clears his throat.

Alistair: Orla, may I talk to you for a moment?

ORLA stands and leaves the room quickly. ALISTAIR meets her under the moonlight in the forest. ORLA crosses her arms patiently. He looks at the floor.

I'm sorry. For earlier. For everything.

ORLA doesn't say anything.

You can spend your time however you like. It's not my business. And, and, your gift has grown so much. It's remarkable how much it's progressed. It's impressive, really.

ORLA doesn't say anything.

Truthfully, watching you with the child –

Orla: Her name is Renesmee.

Alistair: Renesmee. I was – I am - strangely jealous of the bond you have with her. You trust each other.

Orla: You've not spoken to her.

Alistair: No...I mean, I found myself thinking...wishing WE had that level of trust between us.

ORLA frowns slightly, looking at the floor.

Orla: You realise you've never called me by my actual name before?

Pause.

Right. I think this conversation marks the end of the experiment.
