"So Mat, you said your dad owned a café?" I ask trying to break the awkwardness.
"Yeah, Ronnie's" He answers.
"Ronnie's? Your dad owns that café?" I love that restaurant. I'm always there like nearly every day. Tash and I usually go every Thursday after school and I sometimes go alone when I have free time.
"Yeah? You've been there before?" Mat asks me with a beautiful smile on his face.
"Oh yes she's been there alright." My mum answers for me. We all laugh quietly.
"It's her favourite place." Caley adds.
"Well we have something in common then." Mat says to me and looks in to my eyes. My heart leaps at the beautiful way his eyes glow and his cheeks lift when he smiles. Our eyes meet for at least 5 seconds but it felt like forever for some reason. What has he done to me? I have never felt this way since 9th grade, and its only been one day with Mat.
We both go silent and exchange awkward smiles till my mum finally breaks it.
"So Mat, what are you planning to do after school?" My mum asks.
"Probably something to do with en..." He is cut off by his phone buzzing on the table.
"Excuse me." He says with a smile as he gets off the table to answer his phone. I get up to help my mum clear the table. I hear Mat outside talking on the phone sounding slightly angry.
"Lola I have plans."
"Girlfriend? Since when were you my girlfriend?"
"I'm with someone now!"
"can you just drop it! Bye"
