Echo:
I stretch my body, yawning when I feel the sun coming up. I'm sandwiched between Hadrien and Fenix. We all fell asleep on the deck while waiting for the coals to burn out last night. I look over and see Arlo and Dean laying together, but Daegan and Lorcan are not here. Daegan's on a different sleep schedule than the rest of us, so I'm not surprised at his absence, but of course Lorcan had to leave before we woke up. He can't seem to enjoy the moment anymore.
Daegan pops out from around the corner with a large mug of joe.
"Thank God," I sigh, attempting to stand. "I don't suppose you made extra for me?"
Daegan saunters closer and holds his mug out for me. I take a heavy sip, savoring the warmth in my mouth. "You're lucky I like you," he teases, eyeing the cup protectively.
My cheeks warm and I give a shy smile, handing the cup back to him. "Mmm, I am lucky."
Daegan leans close and kisses the corner of my mouth before taking a sip of the drink as well. I notice the purple lines under his eyes.
"Did you sleep last night?" I ask.
"A little," he shrugs, taking another drink.
"When are you going to bed?" I say, trying to hold back a pout. It doesn't work.
"Why?" There's a mischievous twinkle in his eyes. "Had some plans for us?" He pulls me close with his free arm and grabs my ass.
"Careful, I'm injured!" I feign, backing up. Daegan rolls his eyes and takes another hearty swig of his drink.
"You two can get a room," Fenix says from beneath us.
"But then how would you watch?" I tease.
"Oi, Daegan!" Dean says, voice sleepy. "I don't s'pose you have some extra joe?"
"Yeah, I'd love some," Arlo adds, sitting up.
Daegan smirks down at Hadrien sitting below us. "Let me guess, you're also dying to get a sip of my drink?"
Hadrien gives a sleepy, silent grin.
Lorcan comes around the corner with a mug of liquid and we all turn. He stops in his tracks. "What?" He asks. "Can't a man enjoy a morning cup of joe?"
We all smile at each other.
"Anyways," Lorcan says, confused, "We're hitting Parmenia's northern port before supper. Help me ready the ship and our supplies." Lorcan begins turning away, back towards his room.
"Lorcan!" I call after him, stumbling. Daegan tosses me my cane and I catch up, much to Lorcan's dismay. He's giving me an irritated look, but he could have simply walked away a little faster. "I need you to be honest with me," I say, feeling a little out of breath.
"Do you?"
"You need to tell me where the gem is."
"Do I?"
"Lorcan," I say pointedly. "Have you heard of Alastair? Or his gang?"
"No." He lies, taking a gulp of his coffee. I want to knock the damn cup out of his hand.
"Fantastic," I say sarcastically. "Then you aren't aware that he has a lot of connections and lot of power. He could ruin me."
Lorcan raises an eyebrow in mock interest. "Really?"
