"Captain," a calm voice calls me. I lean into the wet tongue playing against my neck and moan, ignoring the call. His tongue moves lower, suckling towards my breast. I'm still in my fluffy cotton dress, but my chest is half-bouncing out of it when I'm not trying to get fucked, so it will be easy to push my nipples out for some foreplay.

My door opens and Lorcan sighs, but otherwise seems un-phased finding me in bed like this with a strange man. "Captain." Lorcan says again, voice steady and calm.

I push my breast into this man's face who is attached to my body like glue. I found him in the tavern downstairs. I think his name is Jeremy. Maybe Jim? He moans and bites my nipple before sucking it into his mouth.

Lorcan sighs. I open my eyes and look up at the man. He's tall and lean, and muscular under his loose clothing. He has shoulder length blonde hair that's usually knotted back out of his face and away from his short, well-kept beard. With the light coming from behind him in the tavern hallway, I can only see his silhouette, but I know it's Lorcan anyways. He's been part of my crew for several years and quickly became one of my most trusted men because he's so hard working and loyal.

"What?" I say, irritated. The man on my nipple starts to pull up, so I gently press my hand on the back of his head and keep him working.

Lorcan clears his throat before speaking. "We need to leave. There's men coming after our ship. We-"

I cut Lorcan off. "We? What did I do that alerted men to our ship? Is this an 'us' problem or a 'you' problem, Lorcan?" Jim, or maybe he's Johnathon, trails his hand down my thigh and plays with the ruffles of my dress. I bend my knee and the dress falls to my hips, exposing me to both the men in the room.

"It's a Fenix problem," Lorcan replies, sounding unamused by my situation. "He's been gambling." I sigh as my hook-up makes his way to my wet cunt. "He's part of your crew, which does make it a 'you' problem. We need to ready the ship to leave by morning."

I lean my head back in both irritation and bliss. This man's calloused fingers feel great against my skin. If only he knew how to use them a little better.

I clear my throat. "Fenix shouldn't be betting on shit that isn't his. If he gambled away my property, I have half a mind to leave him here and be on my way." I say. Lorcan doesn't reply. I let out a soft moan as the man plays with me. "Don't ready the ship. Send Hadrien and Marque to keep watch tonight. We leave in two days as scheduled."

"Echo-" Lorcan begins to call me. I sit up and push away the strangers hands off of my body, glaring at Lorcan, daring him to continue speaking.

"You'll address me as your captain. Fenix's problems are not my problems," I say. I stand up and pat my dress down, fixing myself to not look like a mess as I approach him in the doorway. "Fenix swore devotion to me and my ship. If he betrayed us-"

Lorcan interrupts me this time. "He hasn't betrayed us, Captain. He has had gambling issues for a while now. The crew... we've begged for your support in so many ways and you continue to put your needs-" he gestures to the man behind me, "-before ours. We didn't swear devotion to you, we swore devotion to the captain of our ship, The Evocation. You haven't been acting like our captain, Echo."

I grit my teeth. My father was the original captain of The Evocation. Captain Callaghan. His crew loved and respected him. He was headstrong and resilient, but kind as well. When he passed, he made me the new captain. The crew was furious that he let a teenage girl take his place when there were men who were dedicated and far more worthy of being captain than me. That was years ago and I've spent all this time working hard to make the crew respect me just as they respected my father.

But because I'm a woman, I've had to work twice as hard and show no emotion, no weakness. I get overlooked and undermined half the time just so I can be revered when it truly matters. For Lorcan to suggest that I haven't been acting like a captain is infuriating. No matter what I do, these men will never see me as a worthy captain of The Evocation.

"We are preparing to leave by morning." Lorcan says with clenched teeth. "If you want to act like the captain, you will be there."

I slap Lorcan across the face before I can think better of it. My hand tingles and my fingers sting, probably hurting me more than it hurt him. Lorcan doesn't even flinch. I grab Lorcan's face, pinching his cheeks between my fingers and thumb. His lips screw up from the pressure. I'm not holding Lorcan hard, but he doesn't back away. Is it out of respect? Or fear? I bring my face close to Lorcan's. So close, I can smell his breath. It's minty with not a trace of alcohol. He's surprisingly sober.

"I will be present first thing in the morning. You will not depart until my boots are on the deck. Understand?" I try to keep my voice quiet and hard, but it quivers at the end of my sentence. My title of Captain has been slipping for a while now. I thought being unrelenting and firm would hold it in place, but it seems to be slipping anyway. Has my handle of the ship fallen so quickly? Is Lorcan aware of how afraid I am that my ship is being seized from the inside?

Lorcan nods his head. I release his face but my nails leave a small imprint on both of his cheeks. I step back, taking a deep breath as his strong woody scent dissipates with the distance. I stare into his stormy blue eyes in silence, before he finally speaks. "We will wait for you until noon." Then he turns and shuts the door behind him.

I stare at the dark wooden door, my heart beating madly. I promised myself that I would never waver or compromise. Despite remaining stone cold on the outside, I feel like a hurricane on the inside. I feel pathetic making compromises to keep my title.

The man behind me sighs and I turn, trying to look at his face in the dark room. My ship often stops at different ports to party and gamble and drink and fuck. There's several men in my crew that I'd sleep with under different circumstances, but I can't be the captain that whores around with her crew. People don't take me seriously as it is. So I get drunk and flirt and find the first tavern man who is willing to please me. Although most villagers feign fear of pirates like me, it's not hard to find someone willing to bed with me. Men are desperate creatures, after all.

"Are you coming back to bed?" My pick of the night says, patting the bed next to him.

I'm not even horny anymore. Just pissed at Fenix for causing trouble again. Pissed at Lorcan for barging in, not that I'd mind if he'd join our rendezvous, but I'm pissed he was so unbothered by barging in and telling me they'd leave without me. Maybe they should leave without me. Maybe they would be better off without me.

I slip my dress off my body, letting it fall to the floor with a hearty "puff" from the many layers of fabric. I hardly ever wear something this feminine or nice, just when I'm trying to impress the local tavern men.

I slowly slink over to the sexy man in the bed. I'm not in the mood anymore, but it's better to be distracted than stewing over an unfaithful crew.
