Riley sat on the edge of the group, the tension between her and Clarke weighing heavily on her mind. The silence that stretched between them was more painful than words, each moment reminding her of how she had betrayed Clarke's trust. Clarke had barely acknowledged her presence, and Riley couldn't blame her. She had messed up. Badly.Lying down, Riley tried to sleep, but it was impossible. The night was too quiet, too still. Clarke tossed beside her before finally giving up, standing abruptly to stare out into the darkness. Riley glanced up, watching as Clarke's blue eyes reflected the faint starlight. For a moment, Riley almost called out to her again but swallowed the words before they could form. What good would it do? Clarke was still furious with her, and no apology would fix the damage Riley had caused.
Bellamy's torchlight flickered in the distance as he wandered through the camp. The man seemed relentless in his search for answers or maybe just a distraction from the guilt gnawing at him. When he finally approached, his face was etched with a mix of determination and exhaustion.
"You two are still up?" he asked, crouching beside them, his eyes scanning the woods around them.
"How can we sleep?" Clarke's voice was sharp, her anger still simmering just beneath the surface. "Hundreds from the Ark might be dead. How do you just... sleep through that?"
Riley bit her lip, staying quiet, though she couldn't stop her thoughts from spiraling. She crossed her arms, feeling the sting of Clarke's blame without her needing to say a word. There was nothing Riley could do to undo what had happened, and she hated how powerless that made her feel.
"The flares will work," Bellamy said, but his tone was strained, as if trying to convince himself more than anyone else.
"Maybe," Riley said softly. "But there's a chance they didn't see them. We should've used the radio."
Clarke turned sharply toward her, eyes narrowing. "This is why the radio would've been better!" she snapped, her frustration boiling over. Riley looked away, biting back the retort that threatened to escape her. What was the point? Clarke wouldn't listen anyway.
Bellamy cut in, changing the subject. "Has anyone seen Octavia?" he asked, his worry for his sister evident. Riley, grateful for the distraction, turned her attention to Bellamy. The man had been searching for hours, the anxiety clear in his eyes.
Clarke scoffed. "She's probably off chasing butterflies or something." But there was a hint of concern beneath the sarcasm. Riley barely registered Clarke's words before pushing herself up and walking away, her mind racing with guilt.
The following morning, the camp was buzzing with tension. Bellamy gathered everyone, his voice sharp with authority. "Grab a weapon. My sister's been missing for too long, and we're going to find her."
Riley didn't hesitate, reaching for an axe, the weight of it comforting in her hands. As the group moved out, their steps were halted by a grotesque sight—a sky filled with bodies, tumbling from the Ark like some macabre rain. The silence that followed was suffocating, Raven being the first to speak.
"The flares didn't work," Raven whispered, her eyes fixed on the falling bodies. She looked devastated, her face pale as the reality of what they were witnessing set in.
"Oh God.." Riley said grimly, her voice barely audible. "Those are people."
Raven turned on her instantly, her expression darkening as grief turned to fury. "This is your fault!" she screamed, her voice trembling. Before Riley could react, Raven lunged at her, shoving her hard. Riley stumbled back, dropping the axe as Raven's fists connected with her shoulders.
"You did this!" Raven's voice was a raw cry, each word punctuated by a punch. She swung wildly, hitting Riley across the jaw, then the stomach. "You're the reason they're dead!"
