The camp was on edge, everyone keeping watch by the walls, their eyes scanning the horizon for the worst. Tension hung thick in the air, as heavy as the dark clouds above. Raven's scream ripped through the camp like a jagged blade, harsh and guttural, filled with agony. Clarke worked frantically, her hands slick with blood, fighting to stop the flow. Raven's life hung by a thread, and every second felt like an eternity. Riley stood by her side, her usual calm replaced by a fierceness that had nothing to do with fear and everything to do with Raven. Her grip on Raven's hand was tight, fingers digging in like she was holding on for both of them."That should stop the external bleeding," Clarke muttered through clenched teeth, dropping the bloodied knife beside her.
Finn knelt down, his face pale, his voice wavering with disbelief. "How did Murphy get a gun?" His eyes darted from Raven to the chaos around them, desperate for answers.
Bellamy grunted, his voice a low rumble. "Long story."
Raven, drenched in sweat, her face ashen, forced out a few words between ragged breaths. "We got lucky. If Murphy hit the fuel tank instead of me, we'd all be ash right now."
Clarke's eyes widened, her hands freezing mid-motion. "Wait—there's rocket fuel down there? Enough to build a bomb?"
Raven nodded weakly, a faint smirk twisting her lips. "Enough to build a hundred bombs if we had any gunpowder left."
Riley, perched beside her, absently flipped through Lincoln's book, her mind racing. The flicker of a plan danced in her ice-blue eyes as she scanned a drawing of a Reaper. "What about the Reapers?" she asked, her voice casual but sharp. "The enemy of my enemy could be our friend, right?"
Clarke and Finn exchanged wary glances. Clarke sighed, her tone heavy with grim resolve. "Not this enemy. Trust me, we've seen them. They're not an option."
"We're wasting time," Finn snapped, his voice tight with frustration. "Can she walk or not?"
Clarke shook her head, and Finn cursed under his breath. Raven, ever defiant, gritted her teeth and tried to push herself up. "The hell you will," she rasped, her voice stubborn. "I'm good to go."
Riley's grip on her tightened, her gaze hard as ice but burning with something darker. She leaned closer, her breath hot against Raven's ear. "You're not walking anywhere," she growled, her voice low and laced with a fierce protectiveness that sent a shiver down Raven's spine. "You're already lucky to be alive, and we can spare men to carry you. You're not moving on your own, understood?" Her tone was commanding, but there was something else in it, something that made Raven's pulse quicken despite the pain.
Raven hesitated, caught in the intensity of Riley's gaze, her defiance wavering. Their eyes locked—brown meeting blue in a silent, heated exchange. For a moment, the world seemed to slow down, the air between them humming with an unspoken tension, heavy and charged, like a storm about to break. Finally, Raven relented, sinking back onto the ground with a grunt.
Finn, breaking the moment, stood abruptly. "I'll get the stretcher."
As he turned to leave, Bellamy's voice cut through the air, dripping with disdain. "Can't run away fast enough, huh? Real brave, Finn."
Finn whirled around, his eyes narrowing to slits. "Dying in a fight you can't win isn't brave, Bellamy. It's stupid."
Bellamy stepped forward, chest puffed out in challenge. "Spoken like every coward who's ever run from one."
Clarke, fed up, stepped between them. "Enough! We don't have time for this. It's time to move."
Riley cut in, her voice sharp and calculated. "And if they follow? It's a hundred and twenty miles to the ocean." Her tone dared anyone to question her.
