Please stop me if you've heard this one before. Boy meets girl. Boy falls in love with girl. The cliché. Girl doesn't fall in love with boy— different, but you've still heard it.
Girl is actually a boy. That's new, that's hardly written. Girl (boy) tells boy. Boy supports him. Boy is still in love.
Other boy still doesn't feel the same. He tells him.
"It's okay." This is uncharted territory. "It's okay," the boy says. "You don't have to like me. I promise I won't make a move on you. Just please be my friend?"
No amount of books had prepared the boy for this. "Yes," he says. "Yes, of course."
And so they remain friends. The boy is true to his promise, never showing any romantic intentions towards him. He goes on to get himself a boyfriend, while the other boy discovers the concept of asexuality.

"I asked for the plot of a love story," Mrs. Green said after she read though Thad's writing. "What is this?"

"Love, ma'am."

"No, it's friendship."

"Can you not love your friends?" he asked. "Romantic isn't the only form of love. They love each other platonically. It's a story of love."

"It's not what I asked for."

"You said a love story, you didn't tell us what type of love it had to be."

"Thad?" They both turned, seeing Wes at the doorway. He relaxed upon seeing him. "Oh, good. I couldn't find you, I was getting worried. Am I interrupting something?"

"Wesley, what do you think a love story is?"

He walked over to Thad's side. "It's a story with love in it, just as the name suggests, ma'am."

"What kind of love?"

"Any kind. A love story and a romance story are different, in my mind. Like how a square is a rectangle but a rectangle isn't always a square, a romance story is a love story but a love story isn't always a romance story."

"Read this and tell me if you think it's the plot of a love story." She handed him the paper.

Wes read through it, smiling while Thad blushed. "Aw. It's us."

"What?" she asked, surprised.

He handed the paper back. "That's our story. And it's definitely a love story, because I love him."

"And I love Wes," Thad added, still blushing. "So it fits your 'love story' requirements."
