Early Afternoon
The Airport
Mike flinched awake as the semi-loud beep singaled the landing of his flight. He rubbed his eyes and stretched out his arms before sitting up in his seat. The woman beside him gave him a grunt of judgement as she unbuckled her seatbelt to retrieve her luggage.
"Ladies and gentlemen, after 5 hours, I would love to for you to meet, sunny and beautiful, California!" The pilot said over the entercom.
Mike unbuckled his seatbelt and got up after the woman. He grabbed his backpack from under the seat and put it on before walking out of his row and taking his luggage from the compartment above.
"Hurry up, kid." An older man demanded behind Mike.
"Alright! I'm moving." Mike responded. He walked down the aisle to the exit of the plane. He walked down the long, open hallway to the entrance of the airport door, rolling his suitcase behind him.
He stepped into the bright airport and inhaled the strong scent of lemons and food. He sighed and walked towards the meeting area.
"Where are they..." He mumbled as he scanned the airport.
"Mike!" He heard from near a smoothie shop.
He looked towards the shop to see the love of his life. Jane Hopper. She stood with her father, Jim Hopper, waving happily. Her hair was brought up into a messy bun; her bangs flowing free. She was wearing jeans and a white polo and a deep blue jacket over top.
Mike felt joy melt into him. She was perfect. Absolutely perfect. Nothing could top his love for her.
Mike speed-walked over to her and let go of his suitcase before tightly wrapping his arms around her lower back; Jane, wrapping her arms around Mike's upper back.
She pulled away from the hug and put her lips to his, kissing him boldly. She pulled away and hugged him again.
"I missed you so much!" She announced. "I can't wait to show you Lenora!" She said, ending the second, long hug and smiling.
"Now come on!" She said, taking her hand into his. "I have the entire day planned!"
Mike looked over to Hopper who was grinning. He widened his eyes in embarrassment and looked away.
This summer will be all about me and Jane. Nothing will get inbetween us. Mike thought to himself, smiling.
"So, for lunch, I was thinking we could visit one of the amazing food trucks around here!" Jane said, looking up at Mike with a smile.
"That sounds amazing." Mike replied, smiling back.
"And then after, we could go back to my place and play Uno. Maybe Will could join. He's the KING of Uno. Oh and his friend, Max." She said, going on about ideas for later.
I forgot about Will. I hope he doesn't ruin my time with Jane. Mike thought to himself.
"I have the best idea ever!" Jane said, turning to face Mike. He stopped walked and turned to her.
"What is it?" Mike asked with a smile.
"We could all have one, giant, group sleepover! We could invite Max and Will and sleep together in my room!" She said in excitement.
"Oh...yea sure! That sounds great." Mike responded.
That was not at all what Mike thought. He wanted his first night in Lenora to be special. Only him and Jane. Alone, without Will, or Max. He didn't want Jane to be upset though, so he agreed.
