Y/n stepped through the door and out of all the professors rooms he's been to Dumbledore's was the most interesting, it was a beautiful circular room with many silver instruments making little noises and many portraits hung on the walls

The portraits were of old headmasters and in the bag hung an old hat, the sorting hat, he walked up to the hat wondering if he was in the right house even though Harry had said if he was then Harry would have been as well, the hat looked down at him
Hat: Bee in your bonet Potter
Y/n: I was wondering if....
Hat: If I put you in the right house, you were most difficult to place, but, I stand by what I said, you would have done well with Slytherin
Y/n: I think I would rather swallow nails then be with Slytherin
Y/n stepped away from the hat and heard a gagging noise, he turned around to see an old red bird standing on a gold perch looking very ill as it made that gagging noise again, they stared at each other until it burst into flames leaving only ash on its perch as Y/n's eyes went wide in shock now thinking Dumbledore is going to exspell him for killing his bird as well now

As he looked at the pile of ashes there was a sound at the door, Dumbledore had entered looking somber
Y/n: Professor I'm but.... Your bird caught fire and I promise it wasn't me
Dumbledore smiled
Dumbledore: Ohh about time to, he's been looking dreadful for days, Fawkes is a Phoenix Y/n, Phoenix die and are reborn from the ashes
Y/n: That's amazing!!
Y/n and Dumbledore looked at the pile of ashes as a small bird poked it's head out of the ashes, Y/n looked at it in amazement never seen something so amazing in his life he reached out to stroke the small bird cherping which stretches it's head out to meet him, Y/n's eyes lit up with amazement
Dumbledore: It's a shame you had to see him on a burning day, he's normally quite a beautiful bird
Y/n: Doesn't matter to me sir, this is just, amazing, I can't wait to see him when he's in his prime again
