Jaune was sound asleep in his team's dorm when his Scroll activated, causing him to turn over to his other side, facing his Scroll as he muttered in his sleep. His Scroll started ringing at him, jolting Jaune awake. He grabbed his Scroll and saw Ruby's face appear on the device, making him wonder why she was calling him at this hour.
"Uh, hello?" He asked, only to wince as the only noise from his Scroll was white noise before the call dropped. "Ruby?"
Jaune held his Scroll close to his chest as he tried to get some more sleep, but the late night call had him worried. He hoped that his friends were okay.
"I'm sure they're fine." Pyrrha said as Team JNPR made their way to the airship they would be boarding.
"You think?" Jaune asked, still worried about the call from Ruby last night.
"Probably a butt-dial!" Nora replied, skipping along happily.
"Team RWBY has always performed exceptionally in the field." Ren added. "We should be focusing on our own mission."
"We're gonna be deputies!" Nora shouted excitedly.
"I just got this... Feeling." Jaune replied, concern still evident in his voice. "I, I don't know..."
"Jaune..." Pyrrha began before suddenly the sound of an alarm siren rang out from Vale.
That same siren rang out in Beacon, causing Nora to cover her ears to try and block out the loud noise. The alarm only sounded for one thing. Grimm had entered Vale.
"We're changing our mission!" Jaune stated. "Everyone on board!"
Jaune went to the airship, followed by the rest of his team. Ren was disappointed that they weren't going to the village, but swallowed it and made to enter the airship, but Jaune stopped him by placing his hand on his teammate's shoulder.
"Ren." He began. "We'll make it out to that village another time."
Ren just gave Jaune a thankful nod and the two entered the airship as its engines roared to life, preparing for takeoff.
"Take us into the city!" Jaune told the pilot as the vessel took off towards Vale.
Back in Beacon, Cinder saw the ship carrying Team JNPR leave, but instead of leaving Vale they seemed to be going towards the city. Her brow furrowed as she realized why. Something had gone wrong.
"You don't think..." Emerald began.
"Sure looks like it." Mercury replied.
"That's still days away!" Emerald exclaimed quietly as they both turned to look at Cinder.
"So?" Mercury asked. "What do we do?"
Cinder was about to reply when her Scroll buzzed. She pulled it out, seeing a blocked number and grimaced. She pressed the answer button.
[Is this your idea of a joke, Cinder?] The stranger asked, his voice holding a very deadly edge in it.
"It's under control." Cinder replied.
[The Grimm in the city emerging from a breach in Vale's old tunnel systems say otherwise.] The stranger stated. [Head to the city. Clean. Up. Your. Mess. I will contact you later after you're done. And we're going to have a nice long chat.]
The stranger ended the call afterwards, leaving no room for Cinder to argue. Emerald and Mercury noted the death glare she was giving the city and knew who it was for.
Both of them were really happy they weren't Roman Torchwick right now.
In Vale, Team RWBY were surrounded by Grimm as they stood back to back in the square. The five members of the team were breathing heavily as they stared at the sea of Grimm around them. They weren't in the best shape right now. Their fights beforehand left them physically exhausted and their Auras had taken a huge hit from the literal trainwreck that had caused this incident. Add to that the fact that they all hadn't gotten much sleep prior to this, and you get the current situation.
