Chapter 14: The Raptor And The Rex

Bodies lay before him. With a heavy heart, Green toppled over onto Blue's body. "I couldn't protect her. I failed." He thought, his tears sprinkling onto her, coating her dry, dead body. He laid down, completely distraught, and suddenly felt a much smoother, nicer ground. He stood up, confused, and saw Blue looking disappointed. "Blue?" Green called. "Weak." "Huh?" He responded. "That's what you are. Weak." She said, not even bothering to glance at him. "You couldn't protect your pack, you couldn't protect me, and you couldn't even protect yourself." She said, spitting venom into each and every word. "Weak." She growled. "I-I'm sorry..." Green said, starting to break down. "I wanted t-to... I tried." He said, loosing his composure, but still talking quietly. "Well, evidently, NOT GOOD ENOUGH." She spat with a raspy voice. She was right. He was a failure. He. Was. Weak.

And then he awoke. Truly. And he weeped. Quietly, but his tears poured. He looked over, Blue quietly and peacefully sleeping. She looked like she had never had a problem in her life. She looked content. Peaceful. Happy. She had probably rolled away from Green in her sleep. He wanted to cuddle her. And cry into her. And love her. But she was asleep, and he didn't have the energy or will to wake her. So, he crept out of the nest, to be alone. Once more, alone.

He found the clearing he always liked to be in. He sat on the log, it's soft vegetation comforting to his skin. He looked over at a small puddle, slightly rippling. And then a little bit more. And then a bit more. And then a lot more. He got confused, and stood up. He backed into a scaly tree trunk, and knew that it wasn't a tree. He looked back at Rexy and her ginormous foot. "Hey." She said calmly. "Don't worry, I'm not hungry." He knew that. He sat back on the log in front of him. "You alright?" She asked. He shook his head, the tears starting to drip again. "Alright, no." She muttered, Green not hearing her. "I failed..." "Wut?" Rexy said confused and oblivious. "I couldn't protect her, I couldn't protect my old pack, and I couldn't protect myself. I'm weak." He said defeatedly. Rexy had an iron will, and she would give him one too. She sat next to him, or rather her head did, as that was all she could put on the log. She turned her head to face him. "Let me tell you something. I have fought tough battles, and sometimes I didn't know if I was going to win. Like the white creature. It overpowered me. But Blue saved me. Look." She said, now standing if front of him, towering over him. "Look at all my scars." She said. "Do you think these mean I'm weak? No, it means I powered through, and survived. I'm stronger than ever!" She said. She roared, her voice booming through the island for miles. "I am queen, and I would not be here, if it wasn't for my strength. I'm not weak, and neither are you." "But I can't protect myself or Blue. Maybe I should leave, so someone else can. It would be better if I was replaced with a stronger mate, a mate that could protect her." Rexy's gaze turned somber. She knelt down till she was at eye level. With a voice of complete seriousness, and yet sadness, she spoke. "Nothing in someone's heart, can ever truly be replaced." Green looked up, his eyes leaking. "Besides," she said in a more chill manner. "I can protect all of you. I am queen of the island after all. I'm the strongest creature in existence!" She said energetically, and encouragingly. Green thanked her with his eyes, and he hugged her leg. "Thanks Rexy." "Anytime, Green." They turned and walked back to the nest together.

From a high hill, a white terror watched intently. "Queen, huh?" It roared nasally and raspy. "You won't be queen for much longer, Rexy..."
