Athena sighed, adjusting the sweatshirt she had just slipped on over her shirt before rolling up the sleeves to reveal the bracelets that littered her arms. Her jean shorts were a bit baggier, making them visible underneath the sweatshirt, which was two sizes too big.

On her feet was her dirtied Converse she didn't have the heart to get rid of— she'd boughten them at the beginning of the previous school year, and they had all her friend's names and doodles covering them.

Finally, her hair was down, but she had pulled back two large chunks, that way, her hair wouldn't bother her during the lake activities, which they were doing today.

Her bunkmate, ZhenZhen, was up and ready as well and was braiding her hair into two separate sections.

If Athena was being honest, she was happy that out of all the girls in the cabin, she had bunked with ZhenZhen because ZhenZhen didn't talk.

That meant that Athena didn't need to feel guilty about not talking.

It was a win on her end.

Suddenly, there was a loud knock on the door, causing the twenty girls in the cabin to jump.

"Let's go, lakers! Time to get onto the cars. The rest of you, get to your morning activities!"

Athena inwardly groaned, snatching her phone from the hiding place under her pillow.

She and ZhenZhen, who was also going to the lake, walked side by side to the cars they needed to board.

The two girls then halted by a boy, who Athena believed was named Alex. He was shorter and had red hair with a large amount of freckles.

Suddenly, the three were pushed harshly by a boy who yelled, "Shotgun!"

Athena couldn't help but roll her eyes while she entered the car, sitting in a vacant seat towards the front.

Then, the same boy from earlier entered, and Athena groaned, causing ZhenZhen, who sat next to her, to smirk.

"All right, y'all, the king is back."

He sat next to Alex, forcing the boy to move over.

"All right, scoot over, man."

Alex looked at the boy.

"Move, man. My nuts is hot."

"Sorry."

"You're making me chafe, scoot over!"

"I'm sorry!"

Logan, the counselor, entered the car, slamming the door shut behind him, "Hope y'all not afraid of sharks. Put y'all seat belts on, 'cause my license is suspended."

"Wait, your license is suspended?" The boy, who Athena realized was named Dariush, asked.

"Just a little bit."

"What does that mean?"

"It means let's not get pulled over."

Upon arrival, most kids were annoyed and bummed after hearing they weren't able to go into the canoes. In Athena's case, she was ecstatic.

"Ah, sorry guys, some kid shit the canoe while shooting the rapids."

There was a collective "Aww" amongst the group while Athena looked around, trying to see if there was somewhere she could go hide and escape the fake excitement from the counselors.

"Hey, Cosmo, we're gonna need the second hose down here. It'll just be a few more minutes."

"What? Ain't nobody scared of a little poo," Logan said.
