MELINDA
I hit him harder and faster each time, feeling sweat collect in small droplets on my forehead.
My cousin had to take a step back from the sheer force of my blows, even though I was hitting a mat.
"Dinner is ready. And for the life of me, don't kill your cousin." My mom leaned on the doorframe, eyes flickering between Thomas and I.
"Yeah, I would thank you.. that... very much." He gritted out between grunts.
"I can only improve if I push myself." I stopped momentarily, and countinued again.
"Grilled cheese with fries." My mom whisper-shouted, and I ceased every movement of my hands.
"Be there in ten." I threw the box gloves to Thomas, and messed up his hair.
They watched me dissapear as I bolted for the stairs, going to my room.
My dad had yet to come home from work, but my mom has already finished dinner.
After a quick shower, that my sweat-drenched ass very much needed so, I picked out a cross back top and some shorts.
Skipping every second stair on my way down, I just realized just how hungry I was.
"Hi dad! How was work?" I sat down at the dinning table with a plate infront of me, waiting patiently for the serving fork.
"Caught a guy speeding, other than that, nothing much, sweat pea. What were you up to today?" He asked, handing me the serving fork and turning to the grilled cheese.
"I stopped a robbery." I said nonchalantly, serving myself yummy curly fries.
"Sounds like even she has more action to her days than you do, pops." Thomas chimed in. We had to strain our laughs, as dad gave him a side glare.
Yeah, did I mention I was a superhero? Hm, must have slipped my mind.
It all started when I was six. That was when I.. 'feathered', with my mother's words.
How? Well,
The plaza was loud in my ears, so I had to concentrate, to hear momma's words.
"Daddy will meet us in the parking lot, okay?" She asked me, handing me a strawberry lollipop.
"Mhm" My voice muffled, since I already wrapped my lips around the sweet candy. Yum.
"Do you want to take the stairs, or the lift, honey?" She asked, looming over me, so I would hear her better.
"Stairs! Stairs!" I shouted, popping my lips off the lollipop.
We paced towards the stairs, and, being the little child I was, I ran forward with a mile.
We left the people behind us, their talking fading in the distance.
Momma caught up to me, but since I was a row before her, she hurriedly placed right after left.
Her flippers suddenly slipped from under her, and she let out a gasp.
Wheather time slowed down, or I was moving at an inhuman speed, I didn't know.
All I knew, was that my momma was about to fall onto the stairs, and somehow, I understood with a six year old brain, that if she falls as inconviniently as she is going to now, she will not be getting up.
I was seeing with a blue hue. A switch flipped in my mind, and I moved into action.
Aborting my sweet strawberry lolli, and pushing myself off my legs, I jumped towards momma.
