Cheer For Oblivion
"I am tired of being bullied by you!" I screamed from our bedroom, tearing through the house. The neighbors would hear this argument from us, but I was tired of settling for undesirable treatment.
"Bullied?" That cocky laugh from him tried to throw me off my stance, "Bullied but you have all of this? You live such a terrible life but I am working so you can sit lavishly in this large house with nice things!"
"Nice things mean nothing if you're a dick all the time! Do you think I care about handbags and makeup when I sit in here and listen to you constantly mock me?" I stepped towards him, I refused to back down tonight.
"You act so ungrateful to be here! Do you understand how much I do for you?" That sentence set me off, I laid my fist into the drywall of the hallway.
"That's your best phrase huh? You have nothing better to say than making someone feel like they need to grovel every day because....what? You are supposed to do the basics, just like me! If we don't have a place to live and money, what are we going to do?" Adam stared at me as if I was an obstacle blocking his way.
"Eve, I need you to get a little more grateful for your life," He was imposing himself on me like always, forcing me to stand down.
Not today. Not anymore.
"Adam, I want a divorce..." The words fell from me, they were in the air before I could ever catch them. He just laughed for a while before storming away as a chorus of sounds rang from the kitchen. He was destroying things. I went into our bedroom and packed my bag. I had my car, so I was not about to deal with him anymore.
And he'd pay for all of my property he destroyed.
I tried to be quick, putting all I could into two suitcases. He would get on a rampage and I was not going to be here for that. I would just have to buy my toiletries, but I was on my way to the front door.
"Where are you going?" Adam came around the corner as I grabbed my keys off the table.
"My Sister's place, we are done, Adam," I opened the front door only to have it slammed back in front of me.
"We are married, we are working this out," He cleared the space between us faster than I could realize, a heavy hand holding the front door closed.
"Move Adam, we aren't doing this tonight. I'm not afraid of you anymore," He looked down on me with those cold, brown eyes. A cocky grin gripped his face. He dared me to be more than he saw me as.
So...
After staring at him for about five minutes silently...
I punched his bitch ass in his Adam's apple...
He gasped and wheezed, and I took the opportunity to get in my car and drive. I called his mother to have him check on him after telling her why I left.
She was on my side!
My sister greeted me with open arms, and she was dying for a roommate anyways! It was like everything was meant to be! I got my stuff, and Adam tried to draw out the process. I split and let him keep everything he worked hard for. I only wanted the money I made myself and my possessions. We had no kids, so I wanted him completely gone. I have to say, taking out the trash made my life feel lighter!
