-Hello! CHECK OUT AUTHOR NOTES AT THE END. Very important if you want to keep reading this.-
-Welcome to the end of Part 1 of Brothers!-
Donnie had spent most, almost all, of his time inside of the med bay over the past two weeks. Watching over his brother, and staring at screens filled to the brim with info about his Leo's condition. Not the healthiest thing, is it?
There wasn't much he could do. That any of them could do, except wait.
-----
"I could've sworn I saw his eyes open, even for just a second!" Donnie had excitedly run to S.H.E.L.L.D.O.N. with the news. But after checking the security camera footage before showing the others, he found out that he had, in fact, not opened his eyes.
-----
But he swore he felt something staring into the back of his head whenever he wasn't in the med bay after that. Not that Donnie was out of the med bay much, anyway.
When he wasn't desperately asking Leo to open his eyes watching Leo, Donnie was working on tech to protect his other brothers. He had made them promise to not go out until Leo was okay. After all, Donnie would've hated for Leo to die wake up when the others weren't there.
Or worse, one of the others getting hurt and having to sit in the med bay next to Leo. Then, someone knocked on the door to the med bay. "Who is it?" Donnie asked, heading over to the door using his robotic limbs.
"It's Mikey." Donnie's hand froze at the knob. He turned to look back at Leo. I can't let him see Leo like that.
So I won't. Donnie pulled the hospital curtain around Leo's bed, then turned the lights off. Black flooded the room. Donnie made his way back to the door, opening it.
Donnie stood over his younger brother, way taller using his mechanical limbs. "Hey Dee!" Mikey held a coffee in his hand. Donnie stared down into it, eyes widening at his own wavy, brown reflection. He looked shitty, tired, stressed- "And so we were wondering if you'd like to take a quick break and come hang out with us!" Donnie flinched, then looked back at his Mikey. He hadn't heard most of what his younger brother had said. How could he take a break when Leo was lying in a bed?
But he was about to start on his tech. Which would mean not watching Leo.
So why not take a break instead? After all, Mikey said it was quick.
"Maybe a break will do you some good!" Mikey said, as if reading his thoughts. Donnie stepped out, closing the door behind him and not letting Mikey peek inside. Even though the lights were off and the curtains were hiding Leo, he didn't want to give Mikey a chance to ask if he could go inside. The turtle sighed, then nodded. "Great! Oh, by the way-" Mikey handed the coffee to Donnie- "This is for you."
Donnie looked down at the drink in his hands. It was hotter than usual. Or maybe his hands were colder than usual.
The turtle followed his brother out to the living room to be greeted by Raph, and Splinter, who looked like he hadn't slept in god knows how long.
Dad?
The rat walked over to Donnie and spread his arms wide open. Or, as wide as they could reach. Donnie blinked at him. "Oh," He said out loud. The softshell accepted the hug. Why's he hugging me? He should be mad, or disappointed, something. "Donatello." The turtle flinched at his own name. Instead of getting upset, Splinter continued, "I was worried about you."
Donnie stared off, away from his family. "And your brother, of course. I wanted to let you know it's not your fault. Not anybody's fault except that hippos." And my fault for not keeping Hypno away. "I'm glad you came out of that room!" The rat let out a small laugh, trying to lighten the mood. Which should be Leo's job. Splinter let him out of the hug and smiled. "Have fun watching tv with your brothers." Splinter handed the remote over to Donnie, then went off to the med bay.
