The sun rises as Sensei and I wait outside the door of the boys' room while I hold my gong, waiting for their alarm to go off. It's Wednesday meaning it's Sunrise exercise time and for them to clean up the dragons. Double trouble for them. And just like clockwork, the alarm clock goes off and Lloyd uses his powers to shut it off. I give Sensei a small smirk. Just like old times.
We barge into the room as I bang on the gong and the boys groan in annoyance. "Good morning, morning, morning! Up, up! It's a new day, students! Before we begin the Sunrise exercise, I noticed the dragons made another mess outside. It looks like a two-person job, hehe."
"And I don't want to do it. Sooo you all get to choose among yourselves who goes heh.."
All the boys begin to talk at the same time, trying to get out of doing dragon duty.
"Uh, what was that, Sensei?" Cole asks.
Kai then follows, "Did I hear an SOS call come in?"
"I sense I need to be somewhere else," Zane continue.
That's when Jay comes up to Lloyd with a sheepish smile. "Lloyd, haha. I'm sure you got this, heh."
Lloyd gets upset at that and glares at the four boys. "Aww, you might've been able to dump chores on me when I was smaller, but I'm grown up now. That's not fair!"
"He's got a point. That's why I never did it because if any of you four made me do it, I would've made you regret making me mad," I say with an almost evil smile.
Kai shudders at the thought of going through the strict training I did with him when he didn't listen to me. He then sighs and looks at Lloyd with a smirk. "You're right, Lloyd. We need to settle this like men. With a round of Rock, Paper, Clamp! Okay, on three! One, two, three!"
All five of them shoot their shot and everyone but Lloyd chose paper. And he chose rock.
"Haha, paper beats rock!" Jay says with a smile.
Lloyd groans and glares at the four. "How does paper beat rock?!" the blonde shouts at them as he gets ready to clean up the dragons. "I always have to do the dirty work. Can't you make them do it Y/n? I am your partner after all!"
I give him a sympathetic smile. "To be fair, in this instance, I am still your teacher. Not your partner. In any other instance, I wouldn't have let you play. This... is something you gotta learn heh."
"Hey, having a pet dragon requires a lot of responsibility," Cole says with a shrug.
Jay then asks him, curious. "Didn't your mom ever let you have a pet?"
"I don't remember my mother. She abandoned me when I was really young..." He says, looking away a bit.
My eyes widen a bit as Kai then asks. "She just left? Who took care of you?"
"I spent my whole life at boarding school..."
Something in me just... makes me go to him and hug him tightly as I run my fingers through his hair. Maybe it's something to do with the fact I never met my parents. Or the fact I was always alone. Or something else entirely. He's taken by surprise but still hugs me back with a soft smile. Everyone looks at us with a soft smile forming on their face, seeing just how much we truly care for each other.
Though, Nya, unfortunately, breaks the sweet moment when she walks into the room with a nervous look on her face. "Hey, I have a mission for you guys. It's the museum. They've asked for you guys. Something really strange has happened."
We all look at her as Lloyd and I let go of each other. Kai then asks "What?" in concern.
"You're gonna have to see it to believe it."
