Chapter Six.

Monday.

Despite being nervous as hell, Justice was ready to get his day started. He was up at 5:45 sharp, ready for what was to come. Thanks to his mother and her extensive amount of effort, he had a job interview at the Amazon fulfillment center at 7:15 for a warehouse associate position.

After eating a simple breakfast that consisted of a packet of instant brown sugar oatmeal, Justice went to go take a shower. He stayed in there longer than expected, 35 minutes to be exact. He spent half of that time washing himself, while the other half was spent overthinking.

Once he got out, Justice dried off before putting on deodorant and rubbing on some Nivea lotion. He then began to get dressed.

He could hear soft gospel music coming from his mother's room as she was up as well. The plan was that she'd drop him off to his interview before heading to work and then Jace would be the one to pick him up once it was over.

Mrs.Bennett had to be to work at 8:00, so it gave her just enough time to drop her son off and head straight to her job.

Justice was appreciative of them being willing to tag team and help him get to where he needed to go but he also knew that this would get tiring for them. He wanted and needed his own vehicle.

After getting dressed, he pulled his hair into a half up half down style so that it wouldn't be in his face. Looking in the mirror that was on the bedroom wall, he made sure he looked presentable and well put together before grabbing his phone and wallet, slipping them into his pockets.

"Jus, you ready?!" Mrs.Bennett called out.

"Yeah!" He replied, looking around once more to make sure he had everything. Justice quickly grabbed the Manila envelope that held his resume and state ID since he needed to get his drivers license renewed.

Since he'd been incarcerated, there was a gap in his work history which he was on edge about. He knew they would question him about it but all he could do was be upfront and honest. Hell, they'd do a background check anyway so there was no room for him to lie.

Justice hated how difficult the system made it for ex convicts and felons to be normal members of society once they were released. The government would send people through hell and back when it came to applying for jobs, apartments, etc. and then wonder why some people turn right back around and go back to selling drugs or doing illegal activities to get fast money. It was a continuous cycle.

Exiting the room, he saw his mother standing in the hall with her purse on her shoulder. She was dressed in her usual attire which was a button down blouse and fitted slacks, with flats on her feet since she worked as a teller at the credit union.

"Mornin' momma, you look nice." He complimented, noticing she had her hair twenty two inch sew in curled instead of straightened today.

"Good morning baby, and thank you! You look nice as well. Are you nervous about the interview?" She inquired as they walked down the hall to head to the front door.

"Hell yeah." He blew out a breath as his mother undid the locks before opening the door. "I could barely sleep last night because I was up thinking about it. Even in the shower, I was still thinking about it."

"It'll be okay. Just keep an open mind and go in there with your head on straight. Answer anything they ask you truthfully and don't be afraid to ask them questions either. You'll be fine, you hear me?"

"Yes ma'am." He nodded, now feeling a little better but still not all the way confident. Shaking his head, he attempted to put the negative thoughts towards the back of his mind.
