I lay on the ground of the ship, exhausted. I had been running all day and had finally made it onto the boat. I knew that my father would be furious if he found me here, well he would if he even remembered who I was. Commander Zhao of the fire nation, one of the fire lord's most trusted soldiers. He was one of the richest men in the fire nation yet he threw his daughter out when he found out she was a waterbender. He was furious with my mother when he discovered it, in fact he had my mother executed because of it. I was seven when it happened, and the second my mother died was the second I had been dumped onto the streets of the fire nation. I had to waterbend to survive, but stealthily, because if anyone knew I was a waterbender I would probably have been sent to prison or worse, labeled as a spy and traitor to the fire nation.

The young fire nation girl I was, only thirteen but I looked much older, my silky long black curls draped down to my hips even in the high ponytail I always wore. My face was thin and my bold blue eyes were sharp and observant, I was also tall and thin which added to me looking much older.

After several minutes I got up and began to walk around the ship, I was wearing simple red clothing so that I would appear as a mere servant on the ship, then I could carry out my mission, get back to land and earn her reward.

A couple days ago I had been given the task of killing commander Zhao by a man on the black market, I was told my reward would be a thousand gold coins and I hadn't given it a second thought. I had been on missions like this before, it was my only source of income, and even though I hated it it gave me the money I needed. Zhao was my father but that didn't mean anything in my eyes.

I walked quietly through the halls of the ship listening closely at every door for a sign of activity. Unfortunately for me everyone was out on deck, so out on deck I would have to go. I shifted my satchel from one shoulder to the other, I was nervous but I couldn't place why.

I slowly walked onto the deck of the ship, there were very few soldiers on deck and my target was nowhere in sight. Why did my father have so few people on board with him? A creeping cessation washed through me. Was this the right boat? I went back inside the ship and found my way to the helm of the ship and slowly opened the door.

There were voices speaking softly inside and I froze so that I could hear the conversation.

"Uncle, I don't know how I'm going to live like this, in exile, this isn't right, I am the prince of the fire nation. How can my father treat me like this?!" The first voice was younger, but old at the same time.

"Zuko, your father is not one to make the best decisions but if you think about it things could be a lot worse, you need to take some time to rest and regain strength before you start your search for the avatar," the second voice was old and wise, he knew what he was talking about.

"I don't have time to rest! I have to find the avatar and regain my honor!" The first voice, Zuko, yelled at the old man ferociously. I flinched and stepped back, not registering what I had just heard. I could not have gotten on the wrong boat, it wasn't possible, and it was even more impossible for me to have gotten on the exact boat that the banished prince was on. I was horrified, what had I gotten myself into?
