Iroh or Avatar?

Azari could tell that Zuko was very worried about Iroh, Zuko hadn't spoken since they started off from the hot springs almost an hour ago. He kept staring ahead, hardly even blinking. Azari wanted to assure him that his uncle would be okay, but she had a feeling now wasn't a good time to talk.

Plus, what if they didn't find Iroh? Azari shuddered at the thought. Azari wouldn't know what to do without Iroh, but for Zuko it would be worse. He would become angrier and more closed off. He would stop talking to her and Azari would be alone. They had to find Iroh.

They were in an area of the forest that was thick with trees but the bright blue sky was visible on the path. The trees were pine, or at least from what Azari could tell. The komodo rhinos were happy to be outside. They spent most of their time in the ship and so going outside was a rare occasion for them.

Azari shifted on her leather saddle. She never liked riding and would have rather stayed in the ship or go on foot. Anyway, how was she supposed to help out here? Zuko wouldn't let her stay on the ship though.

Suddenly the party stopped. Zuko was holding up his hand in a motion to stop going. He slid off his komodo rhino and to the dusty ground.

Azari rode closer and did the same, knowing to her annoyance that she would need help to get back on her komodo rhino.

There was a brown tan sandal on the ground ahead of them. It looked somewhat familiar to Azari but she wasn't sure if she was right in her guess.

Zuko picked it up and sniffed it.

Azari looked disgusted at Zuko and a moment later Zuko's face wrinkled up with the same expression.

"Yeah, that's Uncle Iroh," Zuko said, holding it away at arms length to avoid the smell.

Relief filled Azari. She was so relieved at this news. She had been so worried this whole time. But it was going to be alright after all. They would find Iroh.

Azari walked over to look at it but not smell it. She nodded. "Iroh for sure." Her relief was rekindled.

Zuko got back on his komodo rhino and they started off.

Azari sighed as she asked one of the soldiers if they could give her a hand. The man gave her a hand and she stepped on it to give her a lift.

Azari slid into her saddle and then everyone was going again.

Azari did her best to guide her komodo rhino and finally she had made it to Zuko's side.

"Hey," Azari said to Zuko. She knew she was playing a dangerous game but she really wanted to make sure Zuko was doing okay. His uncle had been there for him for so long. What would he do without the kind man?

Zuko kept looking straight ahead, hardly blinking.

"Are you doing okay?" Azari asked. She knew Zuko wouldn't answer at this point but she wanted to make sure Zuko knew that she was at least there for him.

Zuko didn't answer that question either.

"Are we going to have to fight pretty hard to get Iroh back, do you think?" Azari tried another question. "I mean some earthbender are pretty tough so-"

Zuko snapped, "I don't want to talk to you right now!"

Azari flinched back and was quiet. She hated this version of Zuko. It was always awful and scary when he acted like that.

Zuko stayed firm faced but after a couple minutes he sighed.

Zuko's voice softened "I'm sorry, I just want to stay focused and-" but Zuko was interrupted by something he saw in the sky.

Azari looked at where Zuko was looking and gasped.

"The Avatar!" Zuko shouted.

Zuko turned his komodo rhino away to where we had all just seen the avatar's bison in the sky.

But Zuko then stopped. He looked between the earthbenders trail and the way to Iroh and then to where they had just seen the avatar go.

He turned back to the trail and we followed it. Zuko had chosen Iroh over the Avatar.

Azari smiled slightly. She was glad that they had decided to go after Iroh. She was proud of Zuko for that too.

Soon the path narrowed and they were on the edge of a cliff. Looking down we saw movement. Zuko leaped off his komodo rhino and onto the hillside, sliding down it smoothly.

A large rock was just about to be dropped on Iroh's hands. Zuko had kicked it away in the nick of time.

Zuko broke Iroh's chains and Iroh was free.

"Excellent form, Prince Zuko," Iroh said.

"You taught me well," Zuko answers.

"Surrender yourselves," one of the earthbenders said. "It's five against two. You're clearly outnumbered."

Iroh shrugged, "Yeah, that's true, but you are clearly outmatched."

The soldiers fired rocks, but Iroh destroyed them with the chains.

Zuko took out two soldiers with fire.

A rock was fired at him, but Iroh caught it and threw it back at the soldiers, knocking them down.

The captain fired three rocks at Zuko, which he dodged.

Zuko countered with fire blasts that were dodged.

The captain brought up a large mass of rock, however, Iroh threw his chains around his ankles, knocking him and causing the rocks to fall on top of him.

The soldiers were heard groaning underneath the rocks.

Azari jumped off her komodo rhino and slid down the hillside like Zuko.

"Iroh, you're ok!" Azari said.

Zuko smiled but then frowned, "Now would you please put some clothes on?"

Iroh looked slightly embarrassed at his appearance but unfazed.

Azari turned away and they all headed back to the ship.

That night as Azari lay on her bed she watched Zuko as he looked over his maps. He was trying to find the spot they had seen the avatar so he could figure out which direction the avatar was going in.

Zuko sighed as he struggled.

Azari watched intently as his fingers traced the thin paper from one spot to another.

Zuko finally took out his pencil and marked a location on the paper.

"Ha! This means we can find the avatar," Zuko said excitedly. "I'll be right back, I just have to give this information to the caption."

"Zuko, wait-" Azari tried to stop him.

But Zuko was already out the door.

Azari sighed and grumbled. "Ugh, why are you like this Zuko?"

Azari got off the bed and went to the map Zuko had been looking at.

The avatar was going in the direction of an earth kingdom village. So why was a spot in the fire nation marked as 'potential destination of avatar'.

Azari shook her head. She was worrying about nothing, after all neither Zuko nor the avatar would be caught dead in the fire nation. Actually they would. But only if they were dead.

Hi, yes my story is back! I wrote this chapter really quickly so I know it's not that great but I will be getting into more in the next chapter. I will be releasing a new chapter every other Monday and if you're lucky I'll have time for every Monday. Here is a song to go with the chapter because it fits Azari and Zuko. Complicated -Olivia O'Brien. I will put a playlist on here later for fun. Warning though it will be mostly Taylor Swift songs... Thank you so much for reading!
