After He said I love you

Azari leaned forward as Zuko did. Their lips were so close, they could feel the warm soft breath from the other person. Azari had always wished for Zuko to be this close with her. She never thought that he'd reciprocate the feelings she had begun to have for him three years ago when she had first arrived on the ship.

Azari moved closer to Zuko so their legs were touching. Azari felt warm and excited and so happy. She hadn't been that happy in a long time.

Zuko kissed Azari and she felt the warmth shoot through her. She smiled as they broke apart and Zuko smiled back. The two began to kiss again. Zuko put his hand through Azari's hair and she leaned into him. Azari put her hand on his side and they continued to kiss.

Soon they were laying down on the bed next to each other. They stopped for a moment, taking a breath. They both looked at each other. Azari didn't want it to go farther than kissing, she could tell Zuko felt the same way.

"I'm tired," Azari said softly.

"Me too," Zuko agreed.

Azari and Zuko got under their blankets. Azari could tell when Zuko fell asleep, it wasn't quickly but it was faster than her. She was still contemplating everything that had happened.

Azari loved Zuko but she always wondered if Zuko would love her if he knew about all the generals and soldiers, commanders and captains. All the people she had killed to survive when she was living on the street.

Azari would take it all back now. But she couldn't. It was that or die. And back then she was willing. But not now. She knew Zuko wasn't perfect either, after all he had taken an earth kingdom girl prisoner without any real reason. Now she was probably chained up in the bedroom a floor down. Azari still worried Zuko wouldn't accept her for that if he knew. She didn't accept herself for that.

Sleeping was hard for Azari but when it came it didn't bring her any peace. Azari began reliving a memory as she slept. It was an old memory from right before Azari had been forced to live on the streets. It wasn't a bad memory, or at least the end wasn't bad.

"Azari, come play with us," Azula yelled at Azari.

Azari came running and stood next to Azula. Azari watched as the thirteen year old Azaru took orders from the only eleven year old Azula.

"What can I help you with Azula?" Azari asked Azula.

"We are playing a game and Zu Zu is too annoying to be the prisoner," Azula explained. "He won't get in that cage father had made for my new parrot cat." Azula smiled sweetly at Azari. "Can you get in there so we can play?"

Azari had been told by her father to make friends with Azula at all costs. Azari had always been behind in school so she was in the same class as Azula. Azari was never Azula's friend, but she was always used in games and schemes and plots.

"Of course Azula," Azari said. Azari walked over to the cage and climbed inside. The cage was supposed to be hung as soon as the parrot cat had arrived for Azula. It was on the ground then. It wasn't a large cage but Azari fit fine in it. She was a little cramped but not much.

Azula ran over and locked the cage, stowing the key away in pocket.

"Yay!" Azula said, clapping her hands. "Ok, Mai and Ty Lee, you will be my soldiers. Zuko and Azari are the bad guys. You have to try to rescue Azari by getting the key from me. Should be easy, right Zu Zu?"

Zuko glared at her, "This is stupid."

"Then don't play," Azula said. "And Azari will be locked up forever."

Zuko groaned, "Fine, I'll play!"

"Can we just start already?" Mai asked. "When can I throw some knives?"

"I think it's exciting!" Ty Lee jumped up and down. "We get to rescue our friend and actually fight to do it!"

"Okay," Azula said, resuming a stance. "Fight!" Azula threw a blast of flames at Zuko and he jumped back in alarm.

Mai threw a knife that bounced off Azari's cage and almost hit Zuko's back.

Ty Lee rushed in with her chi blocking. She didn't know it very well then but enough she was able to get Zuko on the ground.

Azula ran to Zuko and threw one last fire shot, it hit the ground next to his head.

"Ha ha, I win Zu Zu," Azula cheered. Azula took the key and threw it into the nearby pond.

Zuko looked horrified and Azari was terrified. Stuff like this had happened before. Being locked up alone for as long as a week had been punishments given to her by both her dad and Azula.

Once Azula, Mai, and Ty Lee were gone Zuko walked to the pond's edge and took off his shoes.

"What are you doing?" Azari asked him, surprised.

"I'm getting the key?" Zuko said. He seemed surprised that Azari was asking. "I can't just leave you in there."

"Yeah you can," Azari said.

"Well, I'm not going to," Zuko said firmly. Zuko jumped into the pond and swam in it until he had retrieved the key. "Got it!" he said triumphantly. Zuko walked to Azari and opened the cage.

Azari smiled at him. "You didn't have to do that."

"Yeah," Zuko shrugged. "But we're friends so..."

Azari hugged Zuko. "Thank you Zuko."

Azari smiled as she dreamt. That had been a very long time age. Azari wondered what had made her think of it. She was slightly awake now. Blinking at the moonlight coming in she looked at her surroundings. She wasn't in the palace garden anymore. She wasn't thirteen. She was sixteen asleep on a boat.

Azari began to get up. She wanted to get a sip of tea before she fell asleep again. She thought she might've been starting to get a col. But Azari stopped when felt something.

Zuko's arm around her body. Azari laid back down and let her cheek rest softly on the pillow. Azari remembered the kiss and smiled.
